General Announcements

Date change - T1 Report Cards: Today, Nov 26, report cards will be sent home digitally via email and posted to your PowerSchool parent portal. Your child will also come home today with a form for you to sign and return by Mon, Dec 2 confirming you reviewed the report card.

Nov 27-29 No School, Thanksgiving Break

Dec 12 - 5-8 Christmas Concert - 56 wears retreat shirt and khakis or black on the bottom, 78 wears white on top and black on the bottom

Dec 20 - All School Christmas Chapel 8:15am (led by 78s) Last day before Christmas!

Jan 06 - School Resumes

Jan 07- Geography Bee (details to come, see future MSM)

Jan 08 - Spelling Bee (details to come, see future MSM)

Fifth Grade: 

Water Donation: The 5th grade is raising money to help build wells for clean water around the world. Students were told that they shouldn’t just ask parents for money, but should find creative ways to collect money and practice being generous with the gifts they’ve been given.

SEED Market: We’ve had a great week of learning this week! Today, your students learned of an exciting project called “SEED - a day of Service, Entrepreneurship, Education and Design.” Please read the information sheet. Your student will be coming home with a paper copy as well. Applications are due Wed, Dec 11. Thank you for your support in this project. Please direct questions to Anika Slauer.


Bible: This week we talked about microloans that can be given to people living in underdeveloped countries in order to provide a better life for their family and community. Students will be applying this concept by participating in SEED Market (see the above information). Applications are due Wed, Dec 11

Sixth Grade:

Student iPads coming home: Beginning Mon, Dec 02, students will bring their school iPad home with them each night. We have some information and suggestions to share with you before this happens. Please review this information and talk with your student before Dec 02.

Devotion Sign-up: Sign up to lead devotions for our 6th Graders on a Thursday (8:00-8:10am) this school year. We love to have parents and guests come to share a story, song, verse, prayer or devotional with us!

Weekend Chicken Checkup: Check to to see when your family is on the schedule for weekend chores. If you have a conflict on your assigned weekend, please work in advance to switch with another family. Art: Sketchbook assignment due next week. Check the homework calendar for specific due dates. 

Bible: This week we talked about SEED Market. Applications are due Wed, Dec 11. We also talked about the spread of Christianity under the Roman empire. After break we will look into the persecution of Christians during the Early Church.

Seventh Grade:

History: We are working on a presentation about environmental issues. This presentation project will be due on Wednesday, Dec 04.

Math - Algebra: We will be working on scatter plots & lines of best fit, arithmetic sequences and piecewise functions when we come back from Thanksgiving break. 

Math - Pre-Algebra: Next week we will continue working through chapter 5 in pre-algebra. Enjoy your Thanksgiving Break.

Music - Band and Choir: Concert Dec 12! Black and White Clothes are needed!  

Science: We are now into Chemical Interactions.

Eighth Grade:

Yearbook Pictures and Baby Pictures:

If you would have not yet submitted your child's yearbook or baby photo please do so by the end of November () . Pictures should be vertical in orientation and mostly a “head and shoulders” or “waist up” style picture.

For the Baby Picture, you may submit those either as digital images or as printed photos. Please email the images to Dani Buchanan at dbuchanan@adachristian.org.

GRCHS SHOWCASE 2020!

8th Graders & Their Parents are invited to the Grand Rapids Christian High School Showcase 2020 Tuesday, Dec 03, at 7:00pm! See how a Christ-centered, student-focused approach to learning has made us one of West Michigan's top-performing high schools and such a good fit for so many students!

The evening will include an introduction to Grand Rapids Christian High School and over 20 breakout sessions designed to help you learn more about our academic programs, athletics, fine arts, Winterim Program, and much more.  

You will also have the opportunity to meet members of our staff and hear how they encourage our students in their spiritual journey. Talk to teachers as you explore our outstanding academic programs, meet coaches and athletes as you learn more about our broad array of athletic opportunities, discover our exceptional fine arts program and the many hands-on experiences it offers students, and experience the difference our distinctive Christian education makes in student’s lives.

Art: 8th graders have 2 more classes to work on building their ceramic pots. Student have until Friday to complete the work not finished in class and may work at lunch time or after school.  Please check the homework calendar for due dates. 

BibleVN: We are studying the book of Matthew with a brief look at the story of Ruth on the way.

Math - Geometry: Students should spend 45mins + on Khan Mappers to work on their individual math goals.

Science: We are now studying waves. Next week we will be comparing two different types of waves: transverse and compression.
