5-8 Christmas Concert is Tue Dec 19 at ACS, 7:00pm

Concert Dress:

  • 56 - blue retreat T-shirt, khakis or black pants or skirts.
  • 78 - white dress shirts, black dressy pants or skirts (dark legs)

Fifth Grade:

Chicken & Goat Care Sign Up & Instructions: click here to view the sign up and also the instructions for weekend animal care duties. Our goal is that each family signs up at least twice. If you see an opening that you are willing to fill, please sign up!


Art: 5th grade is working on cutting their blocks. Next up is printing.

Bible: This week we finished up the Pentateuch and began our global awareness unit. We participated in a silent feast to begin the month of November, which produced a wide range of emotions. The students also received identities from different countries. Throughout the next few weeks we will be researching these countries. Ask your child what their new name is and what country they are from! Next week the students should not bring a lunch to school as we will be eating rice as a 5th grade every afternoon. We ask that you pack healthy snacks--stash the Halloween candy away for a week (if your child has any left).

Language Arts: In LA this week, we continue our Poem-A-Day as well as learning about sensory details in our writing. We are almost done with Sign of the Beaver. Next week we will start our Multi-cultural book. Every 5th grader needs to read one multi-cultural book. Later this month, we will be doing a project on the computer with the application, Padlet, to go along with our book. Please read the email coming home today. The Story Plot Mountain is due tomorrow. Please bring it in tomorrow as we will be sharing our plot mountains on the mountain (outside)!

Math: We just finished up our one-digit divisor math unit and we will start a two-digit divisor unit next week! Make sure to practice math facts at home--I have sent home a multiplication flashcard challenge as an opportunity for students to earn auction points. Need a game to practice? Try Multiplication Drag Race-- the 5th graders have been having a blast challenging their friends on this game.

PE: We will continue playing volleyball this week.

Science: Students have done a great job with their Solar System projects. We will discuss gravity this week. A test over investigation 2 will take place the week before Thanksgiving. 5S = Wed 11.15 and 5HW Thu 11.16. Look for a review sheet this coming week.

Sixth Grade:

Art: 6th grade has moved on to drawing portraits. Please check moodle and the homework calendar for sketchbook and project due dates.

Bible(Koetje/Westrate): We’ve begun a project in which each student is doing some reading and research about a particular book of the Bible. Work will be done mostly in class, but your student is encouraged to read as much of his or her assigned book as possible in class and at home.

History: We have hit the ground running with our first ancient civilization--Mesopotamia. The first project of three was due this week. Make sure your child stays on top of these projects. Less class time will be devoted to them in the coming weeks. Project #2 is due Fri Nov 10. Project #3 is due Fri Nov 17. Optional extra credit Project #4 is due Mon Nov 20 for 6W and Tues Nov 21 for 6K.

Language Arts: Your child will come home with a review sheet on Friday. The review sheet will contain the content your child will need to know for test next week (Fri Nov 10). Please note that we are still working with prefixes next week.

Math: We have reviewed how to add, subtract, multiply, and divide fractions this week. Next week Wed Nov 8 the students will have their fractions test. Study guide and practice test should be completed by Tues Nov 07.

PE: We will continue playing volleyball this week.

Science: We spent time outside with Mr. Boerkoel this week as we continue our study of microbes. We will design our own investigations about bacteria in the coming week.

Seventh Grade:

Algebra (7th): Chapter 4 Test Mon. Begin Chapter 5 Tue.

Art: 7th grade is working with texture and creating abstract texture paintings.  7th graders will be working to add acrylic paint additions to their compositions. Please check moodle and the homework calendar for sketchbook and project due dates.  

Band/Choir: Solo Day for band is Tue Nov 14. Schedule to be released next week! Come hear your soloist play! Christmas Concert Dec 19 for band and choir! See above for concert dress for 78.

Bible(Wanner): Working through prayer and looking at how Jesus models the heart of prayer. We are also binding prayer journals.  

History: Next week we will be finishing up our study of South Asia and preparing for a test by the end of the week.

PE: We will continue playing volleyball this week.

Math: We will continue to learn more about percents and how to use them in different situations. Test will be later next week!

Pre-Algebra: Our Chapter 4 Test on Powers and Roots will be on Fri Nov 10. A practice test is due on Thu Nov 9.

Science: We will continue investigating invasive species and practicing observations of our organisms.

Eighth Grade:

Northpointe: You are invited to NorthPointe Christian's High School Preview Day!

On Wed, Nov 08, NorthPointe Christian High School is hosting a shadow day. Students can shadow a current NorthPointe student and experience the day as a high school student! GRCHS: Middle Schoolers & Parents - You are invited to the Grand Rapids Christian High School SHOWCASE 2018!  

On Tue Nov 14 at 7:00pm come to the Grand Rapids Christian High School Showcase 2018! See how a Christ-centered, student-focused approach to learning has made us one of West Michigan's top-performing high schools and such a good fit for so many students! The evening will include an introduction to Grand Rapids Christian High School and over a dozen breakout sessions designed to help you learn more about our academic programs, athletics, fine arts, Winterim program, and much more.  

You will also have the opportunity to meet members of our staff and hear how they encourage our students in their spiritual journey.  Talk to teachers as you explore our outstanding academic programs, meet coaches and athletes as you learn more about our broad array of athletic opportunities, discover our exceptional fine arts program and the many hands-on experiences it offers students, and experience the difference our distinctive Christian education makes in student’s lives.

Algebra: Next week we are starting chapter 5 which continues our study of linear equations.

Art: 8th grade continues to work on building ceramic pots. Many student have begun work on lids and handles. Ask your student about their plan for addition of texture to their pot. Please check moodle and the homework calendar for sketchbook and project due dates.  

Band/Choir: Festival performance is Tue Nov 14 at 2:05 for band- Come hear us at school! Christmas Concert Dec 19 for band and choir! See above for concert dress for 78.

Bible(Van Noord): Matthew is done. Mark is almost done. Next up: The Case for Christ.

Geometry: We will practice and review how to do proofs. Test later in the week!

History: Next week we will continue looking at how our government works through studying the U.S. Constiution. By the end of the week we will start reviewing Chapter 7 and getting ready for a test early the following week.
