Thank you for a GREAT year helping us to Equip Students for Service in God’s World! This is our final MSM for the school year. May God Bless and Keep you over the Summer!

Laptop Turn-In: As we are fast approaching the end of the school year, we have some details to share with you and your student about school laptops. Please take time to read through the appropriate links below.

7th Grade Class Trip: Parents, please make sure that your student brings all of their gear with them to school on Wed, May 31. They may bring their gear in a duffel bag or something similar. We will spend the afternoon with the Helwegs that day making sure all of our stuff is securely packed into the backpacks so that we can be ready to go the next day.

Summer Tech Camp: Do you enjoy using technology? Mr. Musch, Ms. Frens, and Mr. Kiser would love to explore some technology activities, games and projects with you. Our ACS Summer Tech Camp is for people of all technological skills. Possible activities: coding, Cubelets, game design, Makey-Makey, Mindstorms, Osmo, Ozobots, stop motion videos, etc. No matter your skill level, you will have a great time hanging out with the tech team, learning new things and meeting new friends. Summer Art Camp: If you are in 5th, 6th, or, 7th grade and love creating art then you should consider Art Camp this summer from August 7 -11. In the middle school session will make a Chihuly inspired soda bottle sculpture to hang at school, plaster masks, monochromatic landscape oil paint landscapes and maybe we will try out some plein air acrylic painting (if it’s not too hot outside) or other crazy project that Mr. Wanner is working on. Summer Band Lessons - a great way to keep up and improve your musical skills with amazing Mrs. Horton. Summer Music Lessons at ACS with Mrs Horton!

Knollcrest Music Camp - a fabulous option for band, orchestra, music theatre, choir, jazz, and many other musical options. This day camp is fantastic - hang out at Calvin College, meet amazing students, make friends and make music. Thinking about the musical at ACS? This is a great place to get some good practice and build musical skills.

Cross Country at GRCHS: The annual Grand Rapids Christian High cross country open house will be Friday, June 09 from 5:30-7:00pm at Coach Jager’s house located at 1910 Pokogon SE. Meet teammates and coaches. Get race schedules and summer plans, register for camp, and more. Grand Rapids Christian camp brochures can be found at eaglesrunning.com Dates for camp are: Middle school (grades 5-8) are July 17-20. High school are July 23-28.

Hot Lunch will be ending TODAY, Friday, May 26th. For the remaining school year your child will need a lunch and drink (as milk will be ending as well). If a parent wants a refund for a graduating 8th grader (with no younger siblings) they can e-mail that they would like a refund along with a current address. Otherwise all remaining balances will roll over to next fall. If you oldest is an 8th grader and they have younger siblings the balance may be added to the sibling’s accounts as well.

GYM SHOES: There will be a box in each of the school hallways and the front lobby to collect gym shoes that students have outgrown. If your child has complained that their gym shoes are too small please tell them to place them in the box in their hallway. The shoes that are collected will be distributed to a needy child at Baxter Community Center. Thank you.

Fifth Grade:

We have been off to Spring OE Camp - - Great times, great memories. Yay!


Art: 5th graders will be work on a quick one day project this coming week.

Band: Spring Concert and 5th grade celebration is Mon Jun 05 at 7:00pm. No special clothing needed - come comfortable (students sit on the floor during the slideshow). Call time is 6:45pm.

Orchestra: 5th grade spring concert is Mon, Jun 5 at 7:00pm. Try to arrive at 6:45 to tune and warm-up. Wear comfy clothes for the slide show part of the evening!

PE: We will wrap up the year with some fun PE games!

Spanish: Due to Spring Camp, the 5th graders’ Alphabet and Phonetics Quiz has been rescheduled to Tuesday, May 30th. We had a practice Quiz this week.

Sixth Grade:

Art: 6th grade is working on a quick 2 week mask design and making project. Students should be coming home with a bag of artwork from this year next week Friday. Please check the homework calendar for sketchbook homework.

Band: We are finishing the year and putting the FUN in fundamentals! Band is GREAT for the brain and intellect. Better grades, better test scores, mental and physical acuity - - the benefits of instrumental music are numerous and give your students an advantage! Keep playing - try summer music camp or Summer Music Lessons at ACS with Mrs Horton! - music is awesome!!! You could tell at the concert that the 6th band is doing great things - cannot wait for them to be the new 7th grade band next year. What a wonderful team!

Bible: All the 6th graders will be wrapping up the year with a capstone project.

History: Our Middle Ages Unit has all students as a part of the Kingdom of DeWeerd and are working their way out of serfdom to be a king or queen. As they complete a project, they move up to the next social level. All projects must be complete by Friday, June 2.

Language Arts: We are having a blast reading The Wednesday Wars. There will be a short QUIZ next Thursday on the characters and character development. Students have a packet they can use to study. 6th grade summer reading options: here!

Math: In 7th grade there are three different math classes. A letter about 7th Grade Math placement was mailed out today. Please touch base with Mr. Kiser or Mrs. Hotrop if you have questions.

PE: We will wrap up the year with some fun PE games!

Orchestra: Wow - what a super sixth grade string group! We learned so much music this year. Keep your instrument in tune and continue to play some fun stuff over the summer! Meyer Music has a wide variety of books - just be sure to look at the key signatures ( (because we have not learned 5 sharps and flats yet) You have blessed our school with your wonderful musical abilities! Yes - I have some weeks open for a few summer music lessons! Just call or e-mail.

Science: We will wrap up a great year of learning with the topic of biodiversity in God’s world.

Spanish: A few students have asked if they may retake the TEST on the “casa” and using the verb “estar.” There will be an opportunity during Noon Room on Wednesday, May 31st. This will be the only time so students should plan accordingly. (Sorry, no exceptions.) Materials to study are still open on their Moodle page. If you retake the test, YOU MUST TAKE A SCREENSHOT OF YOUR SUMMARY PAGE AND EMAIL IT TO SRA WEAVER. I cannot guarantee your grade will be updated without this.

Seventh Grade:

Algebra (7th): We will wrap up our Algebra book with a little review and work on a math project.

Art: 7th graders are working on drawing from the still-life setup in the artroom. This next week the 7th graders will go back into one of the drawings they have started and work to complete the drawings and add shading and value. Students should be coming home with a bag of artwork within the next 2 weeks. Please check the homework calendar for sketchbook homework.

Bible (Wanner & Huttenga): As the year comes to a close, the 7th graders will continue focusing on bringing service to ACS and its community.

History: We are studying the events that led up to the American Revolution.

Language Arts: The Paideia project is done! Congratulations to the 7th graders! We will be closing out our last couple of days in LA by concluding The Skin I’m In and doing some fun activities with language.

Math: We continue to review a variety of mathematical concepts.

PE: We will wrap up the year with some fun PE games!

Pre-Algebra: Current topic: Surface Area

Orchestra: Wow -we learned so much music this year and you did a super job. You are a blessing to us here at Ada Christian and have shared your musical talents in so many wonderful ways. Thanks to each and every one of you. Be sure to play your instruments this summer- it is great for your brain!

Science: Populations and Ecosystems test on Tuesday.

Spanish: No Spanish class this week due to preparing for and then heading out to the great outdoors!

Eighth Grade:

Algebra: Please make sure all textbooks come to school Tuesday.

Art: 8th grade needs to remember to send an email with picture attached of their installed street art by next Tuesday.

Band: All instruments should be home! Thank you for a wonderful musical experience!

Bible: We are so proud of the students’ work this trimester and we are excited for the way that God is working in their lives. It has been a pleasure to learn alongside them this trimester.

Geometry: What a great year - - thank you so much for your fine work!

History: Thanks for doing a good job on your exams. We will review them on Tuesday.

Language Arts: We will review exam on Tuesday. In the meantime, I am proud of you 8th graders. You have worked hard to harness the English language through writing, literature, and even speech. Enjoy your summer, and try reading a book for leisure.

PE: Thank you for a wonderful year!

Pre-Algebra Enhanced: Thanks for a great year!

Orchestra: Be sure to take your instruments home today! Thank you for a wonderful year. you have blessed so many of us with your music.

Science: We will review our exam on Tuesday after the long weekend.

Spanish: Please remember to bring extra money for lunch TUESDAY at the Mexican restaurant. This is very good, authentic food, and typical lunches cost between 6 and 10 dollars. $5 each is provided by our awesome PTO, but students will need to bring money to cover the remainder of their bill plus tip. EXTRA CREDIT option: Lord’s Prayer may be recited anytime between now and the 30th.

Athletics:

Uniforms: Please return all sports uniforms to Miss Prins before the end of the school year.
