General Announcements

K-8 Enrollment 2019-2020: It time to re-enroll your students for the 19-20 school year! Please refer to the email you received yesterday with detailed instructions on how to enroll. Enrollment forms should be completed by Apr 19.

Staff Appreciation Week is April 15-19: Could you volunteer to help cover recess duty so that our teachers can have a break? Sign up to help any time Monday-Friday Apr 15-19

Spring Concert 5-8 is May 09: 56 wears retreat shirts/pants or skirts, 78 wears black and white.

Fifth Grade:

Help Needed: We are out of paper towels and Clorox wipes in our classrooms. If you are willing to donate these items, they can be given to your child’s homeroom teacher. Thanks!


Art: Next up 5th grade will learn about the work of Mark Rothko and create a project inspired by his art.

Band: Practice records are due after spring break. Keep the practice minutes coming and build strong work habits for the future!

Bible: We are plugging away at the Jesus Project. 3 Pilgrim’s Progress pictures and Feeding the 5,000 Interview are due Fri Apr 12. Your child should be done with these or almost done at this point. Another verse is due Fri Apr 19. After spring break, multiple Jesus Project writings will be due. Check with your child to see how far they are on Feeding the 5,000, Healing of the Demon Possessed Man, and Parable of the Sower and the Seeds. All of these writings should be located in their Google Drive (login is )

Language Arts: Fifth graders will receive a new spelling “my words” list on Mon Apr 08.  They will have an assignment due on Fri Apr 12 and another on Fri Apr 19. The test will be on Fri Apr 26. We will also work on reading comprehension strategies and grammar.

Math: We have been flying through Chapter 10 Multiplying and Dividing Fractions. The practice test & vocabulary (download in order to print) are due Wed Apr 10 and the test is Thurs Apr 11. The answer key for the practice test can be found here.

Orchestra: We are making great progress in our technique books so you should be hearing new arpeggios and songs all of the time at home! Practice records will be turned in the Thursday after Spring break.

PE: Please be sure your student comes to school Wednesday and Friday with proper clothes and shoes for physical activity.

Social Studies: We will continue to study events that led to the Revolutionary War after spring break!

Sixth Grade:

Chicken Checker & Got Yolk: Mr. Hoo has assigned each family to chicken chores for 1 weekend between now and the end of the school year. This includes cleaning the coop, feeding the chickens and picking up eggs. Please look  at which weekend you have been assigned to be sure you are available. If you are not, please work with another family to make a switch. Questions? Talk to Mr. Hoo. We are counting on you!

Devotion Sign-up: We need you! Please consider signing up here to lead devotions for the  6th Graders on a Thursday (8:00-8:10am) this school year. The students love to have parents and guests come to share a story, song, verse, prayer or devotional with us.


Art: 6th grade will be working on their clay project when we return from spring break. 6th graders need to work on their blue animal effigy bowl sketch sheet and be learning the 16 ceramic terms. Check the homework calendar for project and sketchbook due dates.

Band: Many 6th graders wanted to play their test early. Almost ALL of them. That is so cool! Practice records are due after spring break. Keep the practice minutes coming and build strong work habits for the future!

Bible: We will be preparing to lead Easter chapel and will be exploring the book of Psalms and the events leading up to Holy Week.

History: We will continue to study Ancient Greece together, participating in various class olympic events to apply what we learn.

Language Arts: Students will be writing informative paragraphs about land, people, and food of their WF country. Also, students will work through a checklist to help them prepare for the display board.

Orchestra: 6th grade string players had a wonderful time performing for our kindergarten friends and then helping them try out all of the instruments in orchestra! What fun!

Science: We’re building a complex model for density and how it is involved in forming weather.

Seventh Grade:

Algebra: We are working on polynomial equations and solutions- we will be working on factoring when we come back!

Art: 7th graders have begun work on their Louise Nevelson inspired sculptures working with pattern, shadows, unity, repetition/rhythm. Check the homework calendar for project and sketchbook due dates

Band: Well done at Dessert Theatre - thank you for coming and supporting your 7th graders. This past Mon and Tue we performed for some of our younger students. It was GREAT to see the interested little ones watch their big friends. Practice records are due after spring break. Keep the practice minutes coming and build strong work habits for the future!

History: We are studying the history of Latin America. After break we will finish up this unit on Latin America and then prepare for a test the following week.

Language Arts: We’ve begun our next novel study, Ellen Raskin’s The Westing Game - a murder-mystery novel! When we return from the break, the reading will continue. We will also be resuming our work on the ProCon research project and begin drafting an essay from our outlines.

Orchestra: Our super seventh grade string group has been performing so much! After 2 amazing nights providing music for dessert theater they also put on a wonderful concert for some elementary grades as well! Many thanks for your outstanding performances!

Science: We will be finishing our studies of chemical interactions with solutions, acids, and bases.

Eighth Grade:

Algebra: When we come back from Spring Break we will begin our study of Chapter 10. This chapter focuses on Polynomials and Factoring.

Art: 8th grade students will continue glazing after spring break. Check the homework calendar for project and sketchbook due dates.

Band: We tried some scrambled band seating this week. Very interesting to see how independent they could be! Practice records are due after spring break. Keep the practice minutes coming and build strong work habits for the future!

Bible: The plumb-bob project continues! By this point students have all selected their verses and have begun brainstorming their oral presentations. An assignment will be due Wednesday, April 10. Willing to Wait will be taking place during Bible class the following week.

History: We are quickly moving through Chapter 14 on A Divided Nation in Crisis. After Spring Break we will continue looking at the stories that lead up to the start of the Civil War and the first shots of the war. By the end of the week we will be taking a quiz on this information and then we are off learning about the Civil War.

Language Arts: We have concluded reading The Giver, but more discussion of the ambiguous ending and its meaning will follow spring break - what is a “Christ Figure” in literature? Students have already been given a review guide for the test on the novel, which will take place on Fri Apr 12. Soon after we will be transitioning into our next piece of literature, the stage adaptation of The Diary of Anne Frank.

Orchestra: We are working on a Vivaldi concerto and a Korean Folk tune along with Palladio and Small Overture.

Science: We will be moving into a more in depth look at the nervous system when we come back from break.
