Fifth Grade: 

Theme Week: This week was so much fun! Students enjoyed attending the B.O.B Extravaganza, visiting the Grand Rapids Symphony, uncovering mysteries in classes and discovering their identity in Christ. Ask them about it!


Bible: Next week we will continue looking at Jesus ministry by discussing the Beatitudes. The next Bible memory (Matthew 5:3-10) is due Fri, Mar 13.

History: Next week we will begin our Road to Revolution unit where we will learn all about the the events leading to the American Revolution.

Language Arts: We are working on the writing process. With this writing, the fifth graders will work to add elements of persuasion, provide evidence/support, and incorporate transition words into their writing. We hope our final writing product will persuade local librarians to keep or remove a book from the BOB list for future years.

Music - Band: What a great concert they gave this past week - YAY! 

Music - Choir: We had a wonderful time at the GR Symphony and even got to meet Mrs. VN’s cousin (once removed) who plays cello! We saw our art up on the screen, and enjoyed amazing live music.

Music - Orchestra: We had a fun celebration of reaching  song #100 in our books. Our new goal is to finish the book and celebrate! 

Science: Mrs. Westrate will be back this week. We will start a unit on mixtures and solutions.

Sixth Grade:

Bible: Next week we will continue looking at Paul’s journeys by diving into his second missionary journey.

History: We will continue researching for World Fair next week.

Language Arts: Students will begin the writing process with their “culture poem” this week. 

Music - Band: We are working on an entire book full of concert music. We have learned a lot of the songs already and hope to do the entire book. Our spring concert is May 07 at ACS. 

Music - Choir: We have almost finished our unit on The Sound of Music. So close!! Then we will do a project about this time period/era, and will continue to sing the songs from the show and also other songs as well.

Music - Orchestra: We are very close to finishing our book and hope to practice and learn 2 pages per week!

Science: Mrs. Westrate will be back this week. We will continue our study of weather and water.

Seventh Grade:

History: Next week we will continue our study of Imperialism and Revolutions. After finishing up stories from South Asia, we will slide over and study stories from East Asia. 

Math - Algebra: This week we will be beginning Chapter 7 and learning about FOILing and factoring. 

Math - Pre-Algebra: This coming week we start working through Chapter 8 which focuses on solving equations and inequalities. This chapter, and the next, are super important as we build our foundation for algebra next year. 

Music - Band: We perform at Dessert Theatre on Mar 26 and 27. We will also be playing on GrandFriends Day and our spring concert is May 07 at ACS.

Music - Choir: All 1850s music projects are done. Great work. Many unique projects were presented. Some were edible….and delicious!

Music - Orchestra: We also perform at Dessert Theatre on Mar 26 and 27 . Spring concert is May 7 at ACS. 

Eighth Grade:

Bible Hutt/VN: The Bible classes will merge for the third trimester and we will be working on the Plumb bob project. Mr. Huttenga and Mrs. VN will be co-teaching this third trimester.

History: We will be finishing our chapter on the Industrial Revolution and King Cotton. Later next week we will be reviewing and preparing for a test.

Math - Algebra: This week we will be beginning Chapter 7 and learning about FOILing and factoring.

Music - Band: We have some amazing new music to work on. We will also be preparing for our final exam. :)

Music - Choir: Lots of singing in parts. Go team!

Science: We will be finishing up our studies of gravity and kinetic energy in the next two weeks, finishing up Newton’s laws and looking into potential and kinetic energy.
