Fifth Grade:

Art: In 5th grade art we continue to do pointillism. Some of the students are beginning to work on the background of their pieces.

Band: Pages 21 and 22 - here we go - - new notes and fingerings, new rhythms for percussion.

Bible: Look for a separate note home about the plays that the 5th graders will be performing in the Commons soon! All are welcome to attend.

Math: During this short week we learned how to multiply mixed numbers together. Next week we will be dividing fractions.

Music: We traveled to the GR Symphony this past Wednesday for a great concert. 14 of our works of art were chosen for the slideshow - - our best showing EVER! :)

PE: We are learning how to play the game of Pickleball.

Science: Astronomy, stars, space and the like.

Spanish: We will continue to look into the Spanish culture.

Sixth Grade:

Art: The 6th graders continue work on their watercolor project. 6D was able to be introduced and some students began working on creating their landscape picture out of their watercolor experiments. Keep an eye on the homework calendar for project due dates and sketchbook assignments.

Band: Well, a one-day week for band. We did “I is for Instrument” for KD this past Tuesday. So very fun to have our K friends visit us! Feb Prac Recs due very soon. 240 minutes = A.

Bible: Bible Memory - Commandments 1-6 due next Wednesday. We are continuing to look at the life of Abraham.

History: We are continuing our unit on the Ancient Greeks by participating in the 6th Grade 2016 ACS Olympic Games. Each day next week during one class period we will be competing in a variety of activities using our muscles and our brains. The final event is a test over our unit that will be Thursday - March 10.

Language Arts: We hope to finish up our research by next week Friday!

Math: We will continue to learn about functions and inequalities. There will be a test on Friday!

PE: We are beginning our Pickleball Unit.

Science: We will soon wrap up a short study on Chemical Reactions. Stay tuned for quiz information.

Spanish:  We are practicing making comparisons and will begin review next week in preparation for a test the following week.

Seventh Grade:

Algebra (7th): Just started chapter nine. No test or quizzes this coming week.

Art: 7th graders are working on completing their Nevelson box sculptures this week. A new project will begin next week Wednesday.  Keep an eye on the homework calendar for project due dates and sketchbook assignments.

Band: One day of band this past week. Dessert Theatre music continues.

Bible: Students have been working through a study of 1 Corinthians 1:4-9. Ask them about it! Memory work is due Friday, Mar. 04.

History: We are finishing our unit on Latin America early next week and then we are preparing for a test for this coming Friday. Students will be shown flashcards on moodle to start practicing already this weekend.

Language Arts: The 7th graders are going to be introduced to the idea of outlining essays next week. Once we cover the basics, they will begin utilizing their notes to create their own outline. This will be the sole focus of our work time in class for the next several days. Students and parents alike will be receiving ample specific info on this process - parents, expect some emails soon!

PE: We are beginning our Pickleball Unit.

Pre-Algebra (Holtrop): On Monday students will have a test on Chapter 8. Next we will be studying probability!

Pre-Algebra (Kiser): We will be solving inequalities all next week.

Science: Continuing our use of the microscope. We will soon be starting our study of cells.

Spanish: Due to Thursday's snow day, 7B will have their TEST on Tuesday, March 1. We then begin learning more verbs, this time with the ER and IR endings.

Eighth Grade:

Dessert Theatre: Due to our canceled Wednesday rehearsal, there is a schedule change. Full cast is still called for all further rehearsals.  Dessert Theatre at ACS - Home

Algebra (Kiser): We will continue to solve systems of linear equations and Inequalities.

Algebra (Witte): We will be wrapping up our chapter on exponents next week. We will take a chapter 8 test on Thursday.

Art: 8th grade students are beginning work on their ceramic pots and will continue working on these project for awhile. Ask your 8th grader what texture(s) they are considering placing on the outside of their pot. Keep an eye on the homework calendar for project due dates and sketchbook assignments.

Band: One day of band this past week. We will resume scale tests next week Thursday.

Bible: February Bible memory is due on Monday. We are continuing our lesson on Christ's final week on earth.

Geometry: We have just started to learn about surface area. Next week we will continue to study surface area and we will also study volume.

History: We are finishing our chapter on Manifest Destiny. We will cover the gold rush next week and then review for a test on Friday.

Language Arts: Because of the snow day, the test on The Giver has been moved to Monday, February 29. After, we will begin delving into The Diary of Anne Frank. Students can also expect some time in class to work on the 4th chapter of their “Book of Memories” project, which will be due Friday, March 4.

PE: We are beginning our Pickleball Unit.

Science: Our Planetary Science test is scheduled for Wednesday, Mar 02. Students should use investigations summaries and previous iChecks to review.

Spanish: We finish this unit with some review and extensions using possessive pronouns. We should be ready for our Breakfast unit test the following week.

Athletics:

Spring sport registration is now closed. You will receive information regarding spring sports as we near the beginning of the spring season. Information will also be posted on the ACS Athletics website. If you have any questions regarding spring sports please contact Carly Prins at .

Tennis: If your 5th – 8th grade son or daughter is interested in playing tennis this spring through Grand Rapids Christian Schools fill out this 5th - 8th Grade Tennis Sign Up. Please note, this is strictly run by the GRCS as Ada Christian does not have a tennis team.
