General and Grade Level Announcements

General Announcements:

Merry Christmas to all of you from the entire MS Staff! And, thank you so much for coming to the Middle School concert - it was so great to see so many of you there!

Dates for your calendar:

  • Dec 18-22 Secret Santas (if your child signed up)
  • Dec 22 - half day of school, last day before Christmas Break
  • Jan 08 - School resumes
  • Jan 30-Feb 02 - 6-8 Exploratory! Details to come later
  • Mar 22--23 Dessert Theatre performances

Fifth Grade:

Band: Thank you for coming to our concert! Merry Christmas to all! Stay tuned for another concert given just by 5th graders to celebrate Song 100!

Bible: We are making our way through Pilgrim’s Progress and finished talking about Jesus’ birth. Starting in January we will begin the Jesus Project.

Math: We finished multiplying decimals, and now we are moving on to dividing decimals. Students should practice their math facts--this will make problem-solving much easier. Everyone has done a great job so far with decimals despite the fact that they are tricky numbers!

Orchestra: Fantastic concert! Thanks for cheering us on. We are almost to song 100 in our books! We will play through song 100 before Christmas break so try to review the first part of our book. We will have a 100 songs celebration in Jan. Many students are also working on the 200 minutes for free symphony tickets sheets. Let me know if you ever have any questions or concerns. PE: We had a lot of fun playing “Bean Santa” this week! Merry Christmas!

Science: We’ll continue to learn about physical properties of substances. We will investigate how we can use our knowledge of properties to solve mysteries about mixtures and solutions!

Spanish: We are studying about Christmas in Mexico. Students have learned about Las Posadas and are making luminarias.

Sixth Grade:

Caroling: We are looking forward to caroling on Friday. Students should dress in Christmas colors/clothing and bring a healthy snack for the morning.

Bible: Mrs. Rynders will begin teaching 6th grade Bible after Christmas Break.

History: We began “scribe school” this week. Students learned about scribes, papyrus, and hieroglyphics. We also talked about the importance and process of mummification. Note that the annual ACS Geography Bee takes place on Tues Jan 9 from 10:30-12 in the Commons. Six 6th graders have the opportunity to compete!

Language Arts: Looking ahead to January: The ACS Spelling Bee takes place at 8:10 on Wed Jan 10 in the Commons. Six of the sixth graders will compete in this event.

PE: We had a lot of fun playing “Bean Santa” this week! Merry Christmas!

Orchestra: Thanks for a fantastic concert! Students will have some new songs to practice over the break and many are practicing 200 minutes per week to earn tickets to Symphony. I have more of those sheets available. Go strings!

Science: We continue our study of forces and magnetism in the new year, bringing in a connection to electricity as well.

Spanish: Last week we started a new unit: La Universidad. This week we took a break and learned about Christmas in Spain where they celebrate Los Reyes Magos (The 3 wisemen). We finished up by using a popular Christmas song to learn some new vocabulary and practice our listening skills.

Seventh Grade:

Algebra (7th): We will be reviewing chapter 7 before beginning chapter 8.

Math: We will continue to learn about expressions and equations in the new year!

Orchestra: Super work on the Christmas Concert! Students will have some new music to practice over Christmas break if they have time. I have more 200 minutes for free Symphony tickets available also.

Science: We will begin investigation 4 continuing to deepen our understanding of chemical interactions.

Spanish: Last week we started a new unit: La Universidad. This week we took a break and learned about Christmas in Spain where they celebrate Los Reyes Magos (The 3 wisemen). We finished up by using a popular Christmas song to learn some new vocabulary and practice our listening skills.

Eighth Grade:

Dessert Theatre is underway. Our website is: www.adachristian.org/lionking or just go to the ACS website and type Lion King into the search bar. Rehearsal schedule is at this website and will also show up on Moodle for the students as well.

GRCHS:

  • Jan. 11 GRCHS - Parent Night in the ACS Commons 6:30pm
  • Jan. 12 GRCHS - counselor visit at ACS 10:40am

Bible(Van Noord): We are reading the book of Matthew, hearing what Jesus teaches and analyzing who Jesus was according to Matthew.

Geometry: We will begin Unit 8 in the New Year!

Science: We will begin INV 3 continuing our study of kinetic energy.

Spanish: Students wrapped up a unit on La Universidad by taking a Quiz this week. Even though we were short on time we squeezed in a little Christmas fun with a Wordoku and music.
