ACS is seeking a Farm Manager

The ACS Farm Manager plans, oversees, and maintains the various operations of the Ada Christian School demonstration farm, the goat and chicken operations and growing spaces, winter hoophouse, summer garden beds, and fall pumpkin patch. The farm manager also collaborates with the OE team to instruct students in taking on these responsibilities - integrating farm lessons into standing curriculum where possible.

This is a 50% salaried position working approximately 20hrs weekly. Some parts of the year are busier than others.

Responsibilities and Duties:

Farm and Facilities Management

    • Responsible for year-round care of chickens, goats, and farm cat, including breaks and weekends 
    • Work with OE team and teachers to train and communicate with students and parents regarding chore schedule, especially for weekend coverage
    • Instruct students in specific age appropriate handling, care, harvest (veggies, eggs, milk), and post harvest care
    • Make purchasing decisions regarding new animals, breeding, incubation, seed, soil, tools, compost, fertilizer, straw, grain, equipment, cleaning supplies, etc
    • Clean and organize the barn, including stalls and pens, weekly and as needed (and/or make sure students are properly trained and scheduled to do so regularly)
    • Care for and keep tools organized
    • Assist OE team with planting schedule and ongoing care
    • Assist OE team in maintaining gardens, utilizing student help when possible
    • Assist OE team with weekly farm market: selling/marketing eggs, vegetables, flowers, maple syrup, etc. via buying clubs or market stand 
    • Assist OE team in other tasks, such as trail maintenance, building maintenance, staining structures, weeding, pruning, plowing fall garden, classroom organization, greenhouse usage, etc.
