Outdoor Education News

Summer at ACS

It was a wonderful summer at ACS, but it went by too quickly as always. We’ll miss the summer fun, but it is great to have everyone back at ACS enjoying these wonderful spaces. Keep visiting by clicking on the Whatcha Doin’ link when it shows up in the Ada Connection to see what is happening in all the various grades in OE.

Summer Camps

This summer I was able to enjoy time with our farm club members each week as we worked in the gardens and with the animals. Each week we harvested the goods to be sold at the market. We enjoyed much of the produce ourselves as well. It is great to see kids get excited about the fruits and vegetables. I also enjoyed the adventurous groups I hosted for our Forest Adventure camp. We had a blast playing games, cooking around the fire and enjoying adventures in the woods. I also saw many people enjoying ACS during covenant care and other camps that were hosted at school.  Many people took time to hike the trail and enjoy the grounds on their own time. Summer is a great time at ACS.

Market Cart

The farm market is getting ready to switch out of summer mode and get into the school season. 4th grade will be working to load the cart with lots of great vegetables. Look for the cart in front of school on Thursdays to enjoy some of the fresh goodness.

Farm Manager Transition

Leah Sienkowski has been our Farm manager for the last 5 years at ACS and has done a great job growing the program as well as the garden and farm animals. This fall she is transitioning out of her role as farm manager as she and the Dreamgoats move on to join Idlewild Farm. We will miss her and are very appreciative of all she has done at ACS for the school and particularly our OE program.

While we will miss her, we are excited to welcome Hannah Merrill.  Hannah is an experienced outdoor educator and is passionate about our garden space. She comes to us with a lot of experience and enthusiasm. If you see her around school be sure to welcome her to ACS.

Guests Gardeners

Last spring we began a program that invited parents and grandparents to come to school to help with the ever growing outdoor spaces and the maintenance that is required. If you have a green thumb or are just interested in helping out at school, we’d love to have you join us. If you are interested please email
