General Announcements

Dec 13 - Christmas Concert for grades all students in grades 5-8, 7:00pm at ACS in the South Gym. 78 wears Black and White. 56 wears green 56er Mixer shirts and either black or tan on the bottom. No jeans, no holes, all clothing should meet dress code. We will celebrate Jesus with you and we are excited to do this!

Ada Christmas Parade! All 5-8 students are invited to ride and sing on our ACS Parade Float Saturday, Dec 01 in the festive fresh fun fabulous friendly frozen village of Ada! Parents must fill out this digital permission slip.

Details:

  • Sat, Dec 01, 2018
  • Wear your warm and festive clothes - only warm holiday attire welcome (you are sitting on a semi truck and getting cold - just warm stuff - hats that light up are cool if you have them - we won't be using the school Santa Hats this year - so BYO Hat or stylish ear muffs)  
  • Drop off your student at River Street at 10:30am. The parade steps off at 11:00.
  • Meet your student @ the Ada Fire Station at 11:30am to take them with you! (or make arrangements as to where you want to meet them)
  • Do you have a COOL, Parade-worthy VEHICLE that you would like to have in the parade with us? Email Mrs. VN and let her know - we are allowed to add a couple right near our truck. :) Let me know via the form or email ()
  • Festively decorated or costumed pets who don't freak out during parades are welcome to walk with their adult owners, but they may not ride on the truck with us.

Fifth Grade:

Band: Concert Dec 13. Please continue to help your student find time for consistent practice. We are learning at least a page or so of songs every week - it is amazing how much they can do!

Language Arts: Next week we will continue writing and typing poems!

Music: We will be singing at the Dec 13 concert. We have sung all sorts of music during class, from The Brady Bunch to the Edmund Fitzgerald.

Orchestra: 5th grade strings have pages 24 and 25 to review and new page 28. Focus on adding more practice to learn the sheet music for Dec 13 Christmas Concert!

PE: Please remind students to come to class with appropriate shoes for physical activity.

Science: We continue to investigate the water cycle and water’s distribution around our planet.

Social Studies: We are ending our unit on Native Americans with a Jeopardy Challenge on Tuesday!

Sixth Grade:

Student Laptops: Beginning Mon Nov 12, students will bring their school laptop home with them each night. We have some information and suggestions to share with you before this happens. Please review this information and talk with your student before Nov 12.

6th Grade Girls Book Club: We will meet in Mrs. Westrate’s room from 3:00-3:30pm this week Mon and Thur. We will be reading/listening to Chester and Gus by Cammie McGovern. 

Devotion Sign-up: Sign up to lead devotions for our 6th Graders on a Thur (8:00-8:10am) this school year. We love to have parents and guests come to share a story, song, verse, prayer or devotional with us.

Chicken Checkup & Got Yolk?: Is your child’s team “on duty” for Chicken Checkup this week? It is important to share the responsibility of taking care of our chickens on the weekend. After determining which Team your child is on, please sign up to take care of chores on Saturday and/or Sunday at some point this trimester (be sure to ask your child which team they are on to get to the correct sign up). If your child has questions, he or she should contact the “Eggsecutive Council” member on his or her team.


Band: Our concert is Dec 13. We can’t wait to play for you - we have so many great songs - it will be hard to choose which ones to do!

Bible: We’re wrapping up our study of the book of Joshua in the next couple of weeks. Our next focus will be on Advent as a season of waiting on the Lord.

Choir: We have been singing and singing!!! We are working on our Christmas music and also have been learning about the Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald - some amazing projects are being constructed and will be presented soon.

History: This week, students are completing their Sumerian Invention Projects by presenting their commercials they’ve created!

Language Arts: We have scratched the surface of our disability awareness unit. Please ask your child about his/her independent reading book (due Dec 10) as well as videos, books, and discussions from class. “My Words” Spelling test on Tuesday.

Math: In math we will begin our chapter on Integers!

Orchestra: We are practicing wonderful Christmas music for our Dec.13 concert! Focus on longer bows and all notes in tune! Write in fingerings if you need to.

PE: Please remind students to come to class with appropriate shoes for physical activity.

Science: We’ve shared knowledge our about bacteria through some pretty cool “Wanted” posters and presentations of our findings in our petri dish bacteria investigations. We will finish up our life science unit and move to physical science next.

Seventh Grade:

Washington D.C. Trip: We have some good interest in the Washington D.C. trip already, but we still have room for some more of you to join us. Please let Mr. Witte know if you are interested in signing up!


Algebra (7th): We will finish up our chapter on Inequalities with a test on Tuesday.

Band: After an amazing job as soloists we return to being a large ensemble - we will be performing Dec 13 with the 8th graders. We have a lot of music we are working on. Please encourage the November practice to happen early and often.

Choir: We are getting ready to sing at the Christmas concert and also we are listening to all sorts of music from many genres. Yay!

History: We will take our test on South Asia on Tuesday afternoon. Students should use the review sheet and the note sheets that they have worked on in class to study for the test. They also have a set of flashcards to study from that are found on moodle.

Math (Holtrop): We will be wrapping up our chapter on rational numbers and a test will be taken on Tuesday.

Orchestra: We are working on pieces for our Dec 13 performance  and will be playing with the 8th graders. Practice is extremely important!  

PE: Please remind students to come to class with appropriate shoes for physical activity.

Science: We are wrapping up our Populations and Ecosystems kit by looking at how humans fit into ecosystems.

Eighth Grade:

Graduation and Baby Pictures for Yearbook: Please email Mr. Witte a picture for the yearbook if you do not want to use the school picture.  Pictures are requested by Thanksgiving Break.

Band: We are going on a special musical Christmas field trip Dec 06 - so fun! A digital permission slip will come to your email with the details about this.

Bible (Holtrop): We continue to study prayer. Next week we will specifically look at a simple model to prayer and will begin writing the prayers for our devotionals.

Bible (Van Noord): We had our final Bible test past week, we finished the Case for Christ, and we moved on through the book of Mark. On Monday we plan to have a sort of “Messiah in the Passover” event - thank you for your help with this!

Choir: We are all singing in the Christmas concert, working on songs, listening to classical music, and enjoying all sorts of genres and performance.

Geometry: We will be studying quadrilaterals and their properties!

History: We are finishing up our study of the Constitution next week by working on a review assignment.

Orchestra: 8th graders are adding  new pieces to perform along with the 7th grade strings for our Dec 13 concert!

Science: We are starting our next kit: Waves. We will look at the difference between transverse and longitudinal waves.
