5th Grade
Art: Students have completed their Wayne Thiebaud slices of cake and are working on emoji self portraits to wrap up the school year. On 6/8 students will be coming home with a bag of artwork. Be on the lookout for it.
Language Arts: This week we finished reading The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe! Next week we will reflect on the symbolism of the story and analyze the story elements.
Music - Band: We are almost done with the book - and May is almost over. Great job! Hand in the last practice calendar for the year! For summer - consider Knollcrest Music Camp at Calvin.
Music - Choir: We listened to John Williams “Hymn to the Fallen” and considered Memorial Day and how our freedom isn’t free.
Music - Orchestra: Keep practicing from the book- hopefully we can finish it by the end of the year! Also practice records for May are due on Monday.
PE: We are finishing up the school year with some fun games and fitness tests to see if we have improved from the fall.
Science: We’re wrapping up the year with a quick overview of several human systems including our digestive, circulatory, respiratory and sensory systems.
6th Grade
Field Trip to see a Pipe Organ: On the last day of school we are traveling to Ada CRC for a pipe organ demonstration and our last chapel of the year as well. Please could you fill out this digital permission slip so that your child can participate?
Class Trip is June 03: Just a reminder that we will be gone to Camp Roger on June 03!
End-of-Year Auction: 6th Graders have earned and saved MANY auction points this year. Our End-of-Year auction will take place on June 09 and we are looking for donations. These donations can be gently-used items from around the house that you no longer want/need (stickers, sports balls, Nerf hoops, purses, stuffed animals, etc), individually-wrapped candy or snacks or new items that you think 6th graders would be excited about. If you wish to donate items, please send them in with your student and let your child’s homeroom teacher know to expect them. Thank you in advance!
Art: 6th graders need to be completed with the glazing of the animal bowls by the end of the day Tues, June 01. In class students will experiment with suminagashi ink marbling of paper. Please check the homework calendar for sketchbook and project due dates. A bag of art work will be coming home next week, be on the lookout for it.

7th Grade

Class Trip: On Wednesday, we are packing for our trip to Nordhouse Dunes at school. Students should bring all items on the packing list with them to school that day. Altus Adventures provides backpacks for students to pack in. June 03-04 we will be away on our class trip.
Art: 7th graders will be doing some learning and exploring of the art technique of drawing to wrap up the school year. We use a still life to help learn about sighting, proportion, and adding shading and value, and Please check the homework calendar for sketchbook and project due dates. On Mon, June 07 students will be coming home with a bag of artwork. Be on the lookout for it.
Bible: We have walked through the life of Jesus and learned about the Secret to the Kingdom of Heaven. For our final project on this unit students are spending much of their time reflecting on different aspects of the locations. Projects should be shared and completed with Ms. DeJong before students arrive for the class trip.
Language Arts: We will be wrapping up the ProCon research/writing project and finish the year with a light-hearted memoir tied in to the postcard project the 7th grades were working on in Art
Math - 7th Math: We wrapped up a unit on probability and are in the middle of a mini unit on statistics.
Math - Algebra: We are reviewing for our final test that will be on June 02. Students have been receiving and working on review packets to help prepare for the test.
Math - Pre-Algebra: We finished Chapter 11 on Transformations and Angle Relationships. Some students did not do as well as they had hoped so I am offering a retake for them to complete at lunch with me. For our final chapter on Surface area and Volume students will be building paper castles with different shapes that they measure out and put together.
Music - Band: We learned Wimoweh and have continued to work on our method book. Our final video is due by June 03, it’s the solo at the end of our books.

Science: We have our final Chemical Interactions test next week Wednesday. There is a review guide posted on Google Classroom. We will be finishing up the year with different kinds of chemical reactions.
8th Grade

Graduation: 8th graders should have a packed bag with change of clothes and go to Hedlund’s immediately following the graduation ceremony. They will be able to change when they arrive.
Bible: We will be spending time as a school community.
Language Arts: We will be reviewing portions of the exam. Please have any copies of The Last Battle, The Case for Faith, The Giver, The Diary of Anne Frank (brown textbook), and Lizzie Bright and the Buckminster Boy returned to Mr. Huttenga.
Math - Algebra: I am so proud of this class; well done!
Math - Geometry: Please remember to return your textbook! It was such a great year!
Math - Pre-Algebra: Thank you for a fun year! We’ll spend our last class together on Tuesday going over the exam.
Music - Band: Exams all done and graded…thank you for a wonderful, meaningful, memorable year.
Music - Choir: Thank you for a great year. Your musical will go down in history - you worked hard and overcame difficult obstacles. Always remember that working hard brings rewards.
Music - Orchestra: So proud of you all. Make sure that you take your instrument home!
PE: Please make sure that all PE uniforms are taken home and all assignments are turned in! It was a great school year with our 8th graders.
