General Announcements

May 10 - No school, teacher work day

May 17 - 56 Band/Orchestra Concerts (more details coming)

5th Grade: 6:00-6:30pm, 6th Grade: 7:00-7:30pm

Band in the South Gym, Orchestra in the North Gym

What to wear 56: ACS Working for the Lord T-shirts on top, khakis or dark pants/skirts/shorts on the bottom. 

Each student may have up to 6 total guests for the concert.

May 19 - 78 Band/Orchestra Concerts - 

7th Grade: 6:00-6:30pm, 8th Grade: 7:00-7:30pm 

Band in the South Gym, Orchestra in the North Gym

What to wear 78: White on top, black on the bottom, pop of color is ok - bright shoes or scarf or tie.

Each student may have up to 6 total guests for the concert.

5th Grade

Spring Camp: Please make sure you have May 26-28 marked on your calendars for camp. More details regarding camp and chaperones will be sent out closer to camp.

Gospel Theatre: Mark your calendars - Gospel Theatre is taking place June 4. More details to come!

Auction: The end of year auction is June 9. We are looking for donations - these can be used items from around the house that you no longer want or need (sports balls, Nerf hoops, purses, stuffed animals, etc). If you wish to donate items to our auction, please send your child with the items to give to his/her homeroom teacher. 

Art: 5th grade students are working on creating their slices of cake inspired by the artist Wayne Thiebaud 

Bible: This week we finished Gospel Theatre auditions and began studying The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe.

History: This week we learned about the winter at Valley Forge, Cornwallis’ surrender at Yorktown, and the Treaty of Paris. Next week, Fri., May 14, students will take a test on the Revolutionary War.

Language Arts: This week we started reading The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe. Students have practiced writing summaries, identifying character traits, and discussing the plot elements of the story. Next week we will continue reading the book!

Math: Math MAP testing will be next week Thursday and Friday. The following week we will be having our Chapter 12 Test - Geometry. Students will be given a review sheet next week. 

Music - Band: Our concert is Mon May 17! See top of this document for the details! We can’t wait to play for you!

Music - Choir: Buckets, Leitmotifs of John Williams, Grand Old Flag, Singing, Marching, Movement!

PE: We have started playing ultimate frisbee working on our frisbee throwing skills. We will conclude with a tournament next week. 

Science: We are learning about flowers and pollinators and will continue to do so this coming week. A test over plants and pollinators is tentatively scheduled for Thu 5.20. We will review in class and a review sheet will be posted on google classroom.

6th Grade

A 6th Grade Class Trip is scheduled for June 03. More details coming soon!


Art: 6th grade students should be completed with the building of their ceramic animal bowls. Next week we will have a ceramic terms quiz (study sheet available on the Art Google Classroom) and start glazing the fired animal bowls. Please check the homework calendar for sketchbook and project due dates.

Bible: This week began studying Pilgrim’s Progress. As Christian journeys to the Celestial City we are discussing the parallels to our own walk as christians.

History: This week we learned about the twelve tables, participated in a simulation, and read about the Punic Wars. Next week we will continue our study of ancient Rome.

Language Arts: This week students officially published their websites! They must host a family World Fair night by Fri, May 14. An email was sent yesterday with the links to the World Fair websites and another copy of last week’s parent letter. Next week we will start reading The Wednesday Wars. 

Math: Math MAP testing will be next week Thursday and Friday. We are continuing to look at data we have gathered in class and create different kinds of graphs based on that data.

PE: We have started playing ultimate frisbee working on our frisbee throwing skills. We will conclude with a tournament next week. 

Science: A test on cells will take place on Wednesday. Our next investigation will be about bacteria and viruses.

7th Grade

Art: 7th graders are working on collaged postcards and will be working in LA to write creative messages about the collaged images. Please check the homework calendar for sketchbook and project due dates.

History: Having finished studying how and why the American colonies were founded and developed, next week we start learning about life in the colonies. We’ll be learning this by “becoming” colonists and developing profiles of our lives based on information we’ll learn about life in the colonies.

Language Arts: We will be taking the Language MAP test on Tuesday, May 11. For the remainder of the week, we will be wrapping up the Westing Game reading groups and continuing work with the ProCon project.

Math - Algebra: We will be completing our MAP tests on Tuesday and Wednesday. We will also begin learning about Radicals - our last unit of the year!

Music - Choir: Leitmotifs of John Williams, Listening, Chimes, Change-ringing, Bell Tower Bells, etc...

PE: We have started playing ultimate frisbee working on our frisbee throwing skills. We will conclude with a tournament next week. 

Science: We had the most wonderful day releasing our fishy friends- many beautiful speeches were given and goodbyes said. We have a test on Wednesday on atoms and the periodic table. We will move into looking at different types of bonds late next week.

8th Grade

Art: 8th graders need to complete prop building for their street art minifigure installations and have their installations installed and photographed by next Friday 5/14. The final photo should be uploaded to the assignment in the Art google classroom. Please check the homework calendar for sketchbook and project due dates. In class for the next few weeks we will be working on some drawing and drawing techniques. 

Bible: We will begin our Plumb-Bob speeches this Tuesday, May 11. As an audience, students will be taking diligent notes to reflect on each classmate/speaker. Due dates for all remaining Bible assignments have been posted on our Google Classroom pages.

History: We’ve begun studying the Civil War. Students will be taking on different aspects of the war and life during the war to study them, become experts, and share their knowledge with the rest of the class. 

Language Arts: We will be taking the Language MAP test on Tuesday, May 11. For the remainder of the week, 8th graders will continue doing Reading Groups through the remaining chapters of Lizzie Bright and the Buckminster Boy. We are also preparing for the exam daily. Exam study questions and resources can all be found on Google Classroom. 

Math - Algebra: We will be continuing our quadratic equations unit next week. We will also be taking MAPs tests on Wednesday. 

Math - Geometry: We will be completing the MAP test on Tuesday and Wednesday. We will continue learning about Area and Perimeter throughout the rest of the week. 

Music - Band: Our concert is Wed May 19! See top of this document for the details! We can’t wait to play for you! The 8th graders will also be honored for their years of musical service. :)

Music - Choir: Graduation song, Fiddler Project, Leitmotifs, Change-ringing, Presentations coming soon.

PE: We concluded olympic week last week as middle school. Over the next few weeks we will be closing out the school year with some of the students favorite games they have played throughout the school year. 

Science: We started heredity and genetics this week. We are learning about DNA and how it makes us look the way we do. Next week we will look at the fast plants we planted with Mr. Sportel and discover what Mendell discovered with his pea pod experiments.

Athletics

All spring sports have officially started practice by now and will be competing in games/meets/matches soon.

All 5-8 graders must have a Physical Examination Form completed before they can participate in sports for the 2021-2022 school year. This physical examination should be completed on or after Apr 15, 2021 to valid for next school year.
