Grade Level Announcements

General Announcements:

Today, Mar 03 is the end of Trimester 2. One trimester yet to go! Here comes Spring!

Fifth Grade:

Art: 5th grade is working on painting in a pointillistic style to paint/dot their still lives that they drew.

Band: We will give a short concert on Thu Mar 16 at 2:30pm in the ACS Commons. You are welcome to come see and hear us!

Math: We have come a long way! The 5th graders have now covered adding, subtracting, multiplying and dividing fractions and mixed numbers. We will continue to review the rules for each operation, with a test coming up in two weeks.

Orchestra: We are playing through songs #1-100 this week.Practice and review #25 through #100. We will have a party soon to celebrate this big step! Work hard this week!

PE: We will continue playing badminton next week.

Spanish: 5th graders will be doing their Spanish Memory Verse from Isaiah 40:28 on Tuesday, March 14th. Both the verse and an audio clip of the verse are posted in your student’s Spanish course on Moodle. Also, there is an upcoming Spanish Immersion event (in May.) Details are also on Moodle.

Sixth Grade:

Washington DC Trip: If any 6th grade student and parent is interested in joining the ACS Summer Washington DC trip, please contact Mr. Witte () by Tue Mar 07 for information and details.


Art: Students are working on taking their watercolor experiment paintings and turning them into a mosaic landscape artwork based on the landscape they brought into class. Please check the homework calendar for project due dates and sketchbook homework.  

Band: We are in book 2, making great progress. Very good work on the Chroma-Zone quiz. Signed practice records are due each Thursday.

Bible: (6W) We are working on our Lenten projects. Students will present these next week.

Bible: (6K) We’ve begun a study of Proverbs. A “keywords quiz” over Proverbs 3:1-12 will take place on Wed 03.15.

History: Caricatures of Sparta and Athens due Monday. Ancient Greek Olympic Games begin Friday, details to follow.

Language Arts: Culture Poems due on Monday. We will research a few more days in class. Entire research packet due on Thursday.  

Math: Next week we begin a new unit about Functions and Inequalities. Students also need to have all three of their World Fair graphs finished by Tuesday.

PE: We will continue playing badminton next week. There will be a test at the end of the unit. A review sheet is posted on Moodle.

Orchestra: Remember to continue with the great practice records- 90 minutes per week and signed by a parent. We can tell when you practice so keep it up!

Science: A test on our weather unit will take place on Thu 03.09. Cumulative review material is linked here and is posted on our class moodle page. Students can begin to study by reviewing the questions on moodle as well as the focus questions contained in their notebooks. If they have missed class, they should be sure to ask a friend for notes. We will review in class on Tuesday and Wednesday.

Spanish: Students are working on their family trees now, the final project due on Monday, March 13. They will begin presenting on Friday, the 17th. Presenting is very low key. This is a great opportunity for them to speak in Spanish about something real, and something they may very well be talking about with a Spanish-speaker some day! Details of requirements are on Moodle.  Also, there is a Spanish Immersion Weekend coming up in May at Circle Pines. Students can receive extra credit for attending all or part of it! Seventh Grade:

Art: 7th graders are working on painting their lego self-portraits. Next week will be the last week to work on this art project in class with it being due on 3/16 for 7a and 3/17 for 7b. Please check the homework calendar for project due dates and sketchbook homework.  

Band: We are getting ready to perform at the Dessert Theatre. Ask for a mini-concert! Signed practice records are due each Thursday.

Bible Wanner: 7th graders handed in prayer stories today and now looking at parables that teach about prayer. Please check the homework calendar for due dates.

Bible Huttenga: Students are currently writing a comparative essay in which they prove that one of the three sermons is superior to another. This will continue into next week.

History: We will have a Latin America test next Thursday.

Language Arts: Students continue to work on the Paideia research project. In the coming week, students will continue researching, but will spend more time beginning the outlining phase of the project.

PE: We will continue playing badminton next week. There will be a test at the end of the unit. A review sheet is posted on Moodle.

Math: Students will begin a new chapter about area and perimeter.

Orchestra: We are practicing all of our music for dessert Theatre performances. Remember to have your music for your solos and ensembles at school to work with the piano player.

Spanish: We had a wonderful opportunity to hear about Peru from a native guest speaker this week! We are nailing down the -AR and -ER verbs, and will begin the slightly trickier -IR verbs next week. There is a Spanish Immersion Weekend coming up in May at Circle Pines. Students can receive extra credit for attending all or part of it! Details on Moodle.

Eighth Grade:

Dessert Theatre: Here it comes! Mandatory practices Mar 20 and Mar 21 after school until 6:30pm. Please check your schedules and adjust accordingly - thank you! Dress rehearsal during school Mar 22, performances Mar 23-24. The link for purchasing tickets came via email. Purchase soon if you would like to buy ahead, or tickets may also be purchased at the door. Want to help? Sign up for food for the cast for the week of the play, or to chaperone at the party on Mar 24.


Algebra: We are learning about quadratic equations.

Art: 8th graders are working on painting their Frank Stella family shape portraits. Student will be working on this in class until 3/15 and then the project will be due on 3/22. Artist statements for this projects will be due (Printed off and uploaded to moodle) on 3/15. Please check the homework calendar for project due dates and sketchbook homework.  

Band: Great progress this week on our newer music. Great work on the scale quiz too. Signed practice records are due each Thursday.

Bible: All 8th grade students will be considering “plumb-bob verses” that challenge and encourage them to seek truth and build their lives as God intends. Please take note that your student will be asked to have a conversation with you about this project in the coming weeks. More details to come.

Geometry: Students will have a test this coming Tuesday about surface area and volume. We will spend the remainder of the week learning about the distance formula.

History: We will continue working on chapter 14 learning about the events that led up to the Civil War.

Language Arts: Students are wrapping up the unit on The Giver. We will finish watching the film adaptation, talk about thematic differences between the movie & the book, and dissect the ambiguous ending of the novel. Students will then prepare for the accompanying test - the date will be announced soon.

Science: We’ve been studying levels of complexity in the human body with a focus on organ systems and their interactions. Students will continue to investigate the intricate way that God has created our bodies to function the way that they do.

Spanish: We are studying meals and meal culture, especially lunch and dinner right now. Some more stem-changing verbs are coming our way, along with the verb “gustar.” There is a Spanish Immersion Weekend coming up in May at Circle Pines. Students can receive extra credit for attending all or part of it! Details on Moodle.

Athletics:

Spring sport practices begin the week of Mar 13. Check out the Wildcats Athletics website for practice days and times.
