General Announcements

Lunch: For grades 6 – 8 there will be no Hot Lunch next week so remember to have students pack a lunch. Also, lunch will not be until 12:45pm (an hour later than normal) so students might wish to pack a larger morning snack than normal.

A DESSERT THEATRE need: Do you happen to have, or are able to borrow, any 48” (possibly 60”) ROUND PLASTIC TABLES? We need three of them for the show. Folding plastic chairs, too. Please contact Mrs. Weaver () if you can help out with this request.

5th Grade News

Bible: The Jesus Project is prompting so many great discussions: Jesus’ miracles, parables and teachings. The reading/telling of Pilgrim’s Progress is providing one example after another of God’s grace through Pilgrim’s journey, and we have been able to tie in situations in our own life as well.

Language Arts: We are about halfway through Bring On the Books (B.O.B.). Look for a quiz point/reading ticket update in the Weekly Report today.

Math: We took a quiz on greatest common factors and least common multiples yesterday; these are coming home today. We will continue to build on what we have worked on, and next week we will move on to the second phase of the unit: adding and subtracting fractions and mixed numbers.

Science: The 5th graders are in the middle of an astronomy unit, and have each been assigned a star to study.

Social Studies: Oh Canada! Canadian maps and the National Anthem.

Spanish: We will finish up Memory Verses next week. Due to Exploratories Week in the Middle School, we will only have one Spanish class.

Exploratory Classes: What you need to know!

We are excited about Exploratories next week. Here are some details to help your students be well prepared.

Babysitting Training: Please bring a stuffed animal or a baby doll that would be large enough to put a diaper on. Thanks!

Computer Programming: Please bring charged computers with you to school each day next week. We will be using it a lot for this session.

Digital Photography: Can’t wait to begin looking at God’s world through camera lenses! Please remember to bring your camera and computer.

Inventive Games & Backyard Sports: Are you ready to play? Please make sure you have gym shoes and a change of clothes with you each day.

MVP Physical Fitness: Please come ready to exercise and workout. Please change into your workout clothes before the class begins, and don’t forget to bring a water bottle.

Scrapbooking: Please bring 50-60 pictures, an acid-free scrapbook (any size), scrapbook paper (15 sheets to begin), and double-sided tape.

Stop Motion Exploratory: Please bring in Legos, Plastic Figurines, or other items to use as props. Don't forget to bring your computer. You may also bring an iPad if you would like to try the LEGO Movie Maker App. To get your thinking you may watch this video.

Outdoor Adventures: Looking forward to enjoying the outdoors! Remember to bundle up in your winter weather gear!

Yearbook: Students in the Yearbook exploratory, please be sure to bring your laptops to school each day next week. We will be using the laptops a lot in making the yearbook.
