General Announcements: Trimester 2 is almost over, Dessert Theatre is March 23 and 24.

General Announcements:

Middle School Parents: Please encourage your child to look on PowerSchool to see if they have any missing assignments. The end of the trimester is coming up and this long weekend would be a great time to catch up on some of that missing work!

Dessert Theatre is March 23 and 24! Please be sure to mark your calendars! Our 7th and 8th graders are gearing up for a great event!

Fifth Grade:

BOB: This is the last weekend to read for BOB! Finish reading tickets and bring them in Tuesday! Last quizzes taken Tuesday morning!

Art: 5th graders are working on drawing their fruit still life and then 5th grade will be painting in Seurat's pointillism style.

Band: Signed practice records are due every Thursday. We are getting ready to share a mini concert with you! We will send details soon!

Bible: Work continues on the Jesus Project. Keep working on memorizing Bible verses - 20 points due by Spring Break.

Language Arts: We left biographies behind and are working on a short informational text about hot dogs! :) After that we dive into persuasive essays. This is the last weekend to read for BOB! All reading tickets and quizzes need to be brought in, and completed on Tuesday!

Math: 5th graders are working on multiplying and dividing fractions and mixed numbers.

Orchestra: We are almost to song #100 in All for Strings. Practice page 30 and master slurred notes on all strings!

PE: We will wrap up our floor hockey unit.

Science: Continuing our study of the earth, moon, sun, and beyond to the great expanse of God’s great earth.

Social Studies: Oh! A!? Canada - Enough said.

Spanish: Some 5th graders were at the Symphony last week, so their Ropa (clothing) Quiz is rescheduled for next week Tuesday. We will resume with our Garage Sale activity.

Sixth Grade:

Art: 6th will continue working on painting with the various watercolor techniques that they learn about next week. Don’t forget to check the grade book and make sure that all late work and project work is turned in. Also, keep an eye on the homework calendar for project and homework due dates.

Band: Signed practice records are due every Thursday. We are in book 2! Go, us!

Bible: 6W: We will continue to look at the Bible as a book.

History: Mesopotamia projects can be corrected, fixed, and returned along with the original rubric. Students have one week to turn them back in after I have graded and returned them. We are continuing our study of world cultures. Culture Webs due next week Thursday (2/23).

Language Arts: Students will spend next week working on culture webs, culture poems, and research! Look on Moodle homework calendar for upcoming due dates!

Math: Next week we will continue to study equations! Please encourage your student to show all of their work for each problem.

PE: We will wrap up our floor hockey unit with a test on Friday. There is a review sheet posted on Moodle.

Orchestra: Focus on 3 praise pieces and Eagles Pride this week. Show me your practice times- signed by a parent!

Science: We will be studying water vapor, condensation and clouds this week. A quiz over this material will be coming soon.

Spanish: With Winter Break, 6th graders won’t meet again for Spanish until Friday, the 24th. We will finish up our Fake Family Photo Album presentations then.

Seventh Grade:

Algebra (7th): We will begin chapter 11 on tuesday

Art: 7th graders are moving towards painting their non-traditional self-portraits. Student will be exploring and drawing shadows and highlights onto their non-traditional self portraits. Don’t forget to check the grade book and make sure that all late work and project work is turned in. Also, keep an eye on the homework calendar for project and homework due dates.

Band: Signed practice records are due every Thursday. Dessert Theatre Music is underway!

Bible Huttenga: Students are continuing to acquaint themselves with the terminology and skills of evaluating sermons. I will be offering a re-take option for students who want to gain more points on the “Sermon Evaluation Terminology” pop quiz given last week.

Bible Wanner: In class we are creating and binding our prayer journals and also looking at how Jesus models prayer for us in the Bible. Students will be asked to collect a prayer story from a family member shortly as well.

History: Next week we will keep working through a unit on Latin America.

Language Arts: The Paideia research project is officially in full swing! The majority of our class periods over the next few weeks will be dedicated to research/writing time, so students will need to consistently bring all their research materials to LA. Next week, we will also be having a quest on The Westing Game - the study guide and other helpful resources are available on Moodle.

PE: We will wrap up our floor hockey unit with a test on Friday. There is a review sheet posted on Moodle.

Math: This week we will be studying different parts of geometry.

Orchestra: You played so well at our combined rehearsal with ESME! Invite as many people as possible to the concert-Feb 23 7:30-8:30pm at Grand Rapids Christian High! Students need to arrive before 7:00pm to tune.

Science: We will continue our study of Mountains and Metamorphic Rocks. We will have an “Earth History” Test at the end of the trimester (March 1, 2, or 3)

Spanish: We are switching to -ER ending verbs, and will continue practicing our writing via PenPal letters using our new verbs.

Eighth Grade:

Algebra: We are in the middle of chapter 9 focusing on exponents and expressions with exponents. We will take a quiz on the first few lessons next Wednesday.

Art: 8th graders are doing an impressive job getting their family shape portraits plastered. Plastering needs to be completed by the end of class next week Wednesday and if your students needs time please have them come before or after school any day or at lunch on Wednesday, Thursday, or Friday. Don’t forget to check the grade book and make sure that all late work and project work is turned in. Also, keep an eye on the homework calendar for project and homework due dates.

Band: Signed practice records are due every Thursday. Great work on our new music!

Bible: As the trimester comes to a close, the 8th graders will once again be experiencing a new “format” for Bible class in which both classes will work together on various discussions, assignments, and projects as we prepare to commission these students for God’s work in places away from Ada Christian School.

Geometry: Chapter 9 was a short intro to solids. Now we will be learning about surface area and volume.

History: We are wrapping up our study on Westward Expansion. We will look to review this chapter by the end of next week with hopes of a test early the following week.

Language Arts: 8th graders will continue studying the novel The Giver and will continue writing about themselves creatively in the Book of Memories project.

PE: We will wrap up our floor hockey unit with a test on Tuesday. There is a review sheet posted on Moodle.

Orchestra: Great rehearsal with ESME! Invite many friends and relatives to this concert on Thursday, Feb.23. At 7:30PM. Students need to be there before 7PM to tune.

Science: Waves Test is Wed 02.22. Our next unit is Human Systems Interactions in which we will investigate the structures and systems of the human body.

Spanish: We concluded our Breakfast Unit this week and begin our Lunch and Dinner Unit next week. The unit will include more stem-changing verbs and further use of “gustar.”

Athletics:

Sign ups: Please remember spring sports sign-ups close on Mon, Feb 27.

Baseball: We are also excited to offer baseball this spring to any boys in grades 5-8 who are interested. Please note, like softball this will most likely be a combined team with another school unless we have enough players to fill a whole team. You can find the baseball registration with the rest of the sports as we have just added it today on the Athletic webpage under "register now"
