Fifth Grade:

Band: Concert Dec 19, call time for bands is 6:30pm at ACS.
Bible: We are talking about Jesus’ birth and childhood in preparation for the Jesus Project that will begin in January. We have also started reading about Christian’s journey in the book Pilgrim’s Progress.
Language Arts: We are finishing up our narrative writing and our Padlet projects. I am excited to see the finished product on Padlet. You will be about to see these projects on students’ blogs soon. There is a quiz on individual spelling words on Friday. All students who are interested in the spelling bee can sign-up on Friday for the grade level bee on Monday. Students can study the white list given last week.
Math: We have been working our way through multiplying decimals and will be dividing decimals soon. Keep practicing multiplication facts! It makes multiplying and dividing much easier.
Orchestra: Be sure to have your child in the orchestra room by 6:20 Tuesday Dec 19 to tune! Concert Dec19 at ACS. We are so excited to play for you.
PE: We will finish up our basketball unit.
Science: We’ve begun our unit on Mixtures and Solutions. We will continue exploring these in the coming week.
Social Studies: Moving on to “A New Nation”......and “Expansion West”. Next simulation is Lewis and Clark.
Sixth Grade:

Devotions: Please sign up to lead our class in devotions on a Wednesday this year. Click this link for details and an opportunity to sign up.
Band: Concert Dec 19, call time for bands is 6:30pm at ACS.
Bible: We continue to discuss and experience advent together. Ideas of waiting, expectation, hope, joy and peace are our focus as we read, write, create, listen and share.
History: The students have been working in their nomes to create a 3D map of ancient Egypt. Their maps include mines, cities, water features, historic sites, farming communities, and animals. Next week the students will attend “scribe school,” learning how to write in hieroglyphics.
Language Arts: We are working on our reading response projects (poem + writing piece) in class. Also, students who desire to try out for the ACS Spelling Bee will do so on Wednesday (6K) or Thursday (6W). Study sheets were passed out last week.
Math: Next topic is expressions. We will begin working with variables, combining like terms, and substitution.
PE: We will finish up our basketball unit.
Orchestra: Concert is Dec 19, this coming Tue! Be sure to arrive by 6:20 to tune and warm up. Some students need to be sure to keep instruments in tune and warm. If left in cars or garages the strings break and bridges crack!
Science: We continue to explore forces and motion. We have also revisited our microbe investigation that we began with Mr. Boerkoel 2 months ago to figure out how different types of soil impact the amount of decomposition that happens by microbes.
Seventh Grade:
Algebra (7th): Chapter 7 Test Wednesday
Band: Concert Dec 19, call time for bands is 6:30pm at ACS.
History: We are going to try and take a test on Thursday afternoon on East and Southeast Asia. Students will have a review sheet and flashcards to study from starting on Friday for the weekend. Students will also take the Geography Bee Quiz (not for a grade) in class next week.
PE: We will finish up our basketball unit.
Pre-Algebra: Next topic is Percent. We will calculate percent of a number including tax, discount, markup, simple and compound interest.
Orchestra: Our Christmas Concert is Dec 19 Tue at ACS. Be sure to have your child in the orchestra room by 6:20 PM to tune and warm up!

Eighth Grade:
Dessert Theatre is underway. Our website is: www.adachristian.org/lionking or just go to the ACS website and type Lion King into the search bar. Rehearsal schedule is at this website and will also show up on Moodle for the students as well.
GRCHS:

Algebra: We are working on Chapter 7 which covers Systems of Equations.

Athletics:
Our 7th and 8th grade basketball teams will be playing here at ACS on Saturday. Come cheer them on! The game schedule can be found on the Wildcats Athletics website.
