5-8 Christmas Concert is Tue Dec 19 at ACS, 7:00pm

Concert Dress:

  • 56 - blue retreat T-shirt, khakis or black pants or skirts.
  • 78 - white dress shirts, black dressy pants or skirts (dark legs)
  • NOTE: we need about 5 extra blue retreat T-shirts - please could a 7th or 8th student bring their retreat shirt to school so we can avoid ordering more shirts? Please send them to Mrs. Van Noord in the band room - thank you!

Fifth Grade:

ANNUAL FIFTH GRADE CHRISTMAS POTLUCK ON THURSDAY, DEC. 21 AT 11:30AM Parents - you are invited to join us at this wonderful event. Check out the SIGNUP GENIUS that will be sent to your email soon and/or this week’s WEEKLY REPORT for info…..come one, come all!!!

Chicken & Goat Care Sign Up & Instructions: click to view the sign up and also the instructions for weekend animal care duties. Our goal is that each family signs up at least twice. If you see an opening that you are willing to fill, please sign up!

Bach’s Lunch: Bach’s Lunch will be a monthly opportunity for students to share their musical talents. Wed Dec 13 will be the 5th graders first opportunity to perform for one another in Miss Slauer’s classroom during lunch. Performances can be anywhere from playing a piano piece to singing a favorite karaoke song. Students are asked to only perform if their piece is well polished.


Art: 5th grade is completing their printmaking project.

Band: Concert Dec 19 here at ACS 7:00pm, call time for all students is 6:30pm. Full band all Mon Tue and Thu from now until Dec 21!

Bible: We are beginning our BIG unit of the year - JESUS LIFE, OUR LIFE! This will include reading and response activities from the Gospels, Gospel Theatre, and reading Pilgrim’s Progress and The Bronze Bow. Many more updates to come!

Language Arts: In Language Arts this week we are finishing up our narrative writing as well as working on our Padlet projects. This week, new spelling lists will come home for a quiz next Friday, December 15. Keep the white list at home to study for the spelling bee. The grade level spelling bee the week of Dec 18. For independent reading, 5th graders are reading a book of their choice.

Math: We finished up our unit on adding and subtracting decimals. Next up--multiplying and dividing! Keep practicing math facts at home by having a friendly competition on Multiplication Drag Race.

Orchestra:The Christmas Concert is Tue Dec 19 at ACS!. Arrive at 6:20pm to tune. We have over 40 stringed instruments to tune so be on time!

PE: We will continue playing basketball next week.

Science: We’ve learned a lot about Earth and the Solar System. We’re excited to start our next unit entitled “Mixtures and Solutions!”

Social Studies: We are deep into the Revolutionary War. The simulation - “Daughters of Liberty” vs. “Sons of Liberty” is at a fever pitch. Test and worksheets are next Wednesday (5HW) and Thursday (5S).

Spanish: Blind Retell! Students did a fantastic job retelling the story of Gabi the kitten using only picture. Their Spanish is awesome!

Sixth Grade:

Devotions: Please sign up to lead our class in devotions on a Wednesday this year. Click this link for details and an opportunity to sign up.


Art: 6th graders have a portrait drawing quiz. Also students need to bring a landscape photograph that has been taken personally or by an immediate family member - no Google images and try to avoid the classic beach sunset and palm tree landscape. In class student are working on drawing a Picasso inspired portrait. Please check the homework calendar for sketchbook and project due dates.

Bible: We’ve wrapped up our Book Box presentations and are participating in a variety of activities surrounding the time of Advent. Memory work is Isaiah 11:1-5, 10.

History: We kicked off our next ancient civilization unit--ancient Egypt. The students were divided into Egyptian nomes that are competing to become pharaoh of the land by traveling down the Nile River. Each nome has created a standard, menats, and headdresses with information specific to their nome’s traditions and deities.

Language Arts: We will work on a reading response activity and writing activity next week.

Math: Wednesday, Dec 13 students will take the Chapter 5 Test on Integers. A study guide and practice test were given to students on Thursday, Dec 6.

PE: We will continue playing basketball next week.

Orchestra: Christmas Concert is Tue Dec 19th at ACS. Have your child here to tune at 6:20PM-.We will tune in the orchestra room!

Science: Forces & motion continues to be our topic of study.

Spanish: Students took a test this week. I am impressed with how much Spanish they are able to write!

Seventh Grade:

Algebra (7th): We will begin chapter 7.

Art: 7th grade are working on painting their organism signs in class. Please check the homework calendar for sketchbook and project due dates.

Band: Concert Dec 19 here at ACS 7:00pm, call time for all students is 6:30pm.

Bible(Huttenga): 7th graders will continue their unit on Thankfulness and gratitude. They are writing letters to people they are thankful for in their lives.

Bible(Wanner): 7th graders have a Bible memory quiz on Heidelberg Catechism question and answer 117. Also we will continue to work on learning about the various elements of prayer next week.

History: We will continue our look into East and Southeast Asia next week. By the end of the week we will start reviewing the unit for a test early the following week.

Language Arts: Students have a test on the book Trouble on Monday, December 11. After that, we will be doing a shot unit on Charles Dickens’s a A Christmas Carol.

PE: We will continue playing basketball next week.

Math: We have just completed our chapter about fractions. Next week we will begin working on expressions and equations.

Pre-Algebra: Our Chapter 5 Test on Proportions will be Tuesday, Dec 12. Students should use p.243 in their book and the practice test in their notes to review.

Orchestra: Christmas concert is Tue Dec 19th at ACS. Arrive at 6:20 to tune and play through pieces. Be sure to keep your instruments warm and in tune!

Science: We will continue to study particles, gas, and chemical reactions.

Spanish: Students took a test this week. I am impressed with how much Spanish they are able to write!

Eighth Grade:

Dessert Theatre rehearsal is underway. Our website is: www.adachristian.org/lionking or just go to the ACS website and type Lion King into the search bar. The rehearsal schedule is at this website and will also show up on Moodle for the students as well.

GRCHS Dates:

  • Jan. 11 Parent Night in the ACS Commons 6:30 pm
  • Jan. 12 GRCHS - counselor visit at ACS 10:40 am

Algebra: We will have a test on Chapter 6 on Tuesday.

Art: 8th graders are working on putting shape to their family members and creating these shapes in cardboard. Please check the homework calendar for sketchbook and project due dates.

Band: Concert Dec 19 here at ACS 7:00pm, call time for all students is 6:30pm.

Bible(Huttenga): 8th graders are reading through CS Lewis’s The Last Battle. While reading, students will be inspecting the book for hints at the process of Reformation. Several students from the previous trimester have not returned their copies of the book - we need them back ASAP!

Bible(Van Noord): We are reading Matthew and have recently written and talked about Blessings. Next up parables. Ask your student about practical advice from the book of Matthew that will help with our everyday lives.

Geometry: We will be wrapping up our unit on Triangle Congruence. Test will be on Friday.

History: We will take a test on the First Presidents on Monday morning.

Language Arts: The NHD project is coming to an end, and students will be making the final revisions up through Christmas. In the meantime, the students will continue learning more about grammar, the parts of speech in particular.

PE: We will continue playing basketball next week.

Orchestra: Christmas Concert is Tue Dec 19th here at ACS. We will tune at 6:20 in the orchestra room!

Science: We will continue to study gravity. No I-Check this week.

Spanish: Our class began a new unit. This will be a short unit on the University and professions. Look for a Quiz over this unit on Dec. 19 or 20.

Athletics:

Basketball: The gyms are busy with all of our basketball teams practicing! Check out the Wildcats Athletics website for a game schedule. Go Wildcats!
