General Announcements

K-8 Enrollment 2019-2020: It time to re-enroll your students for the 19-20 school year! Please refer to the email you received yesterday with detailed instructions on how to enroll. Enrollment forms should be completed by Apr 19.

Fine Arts Night and World Fair: April 25

Spring Concert 5-8 is May 09: 56 wears retreat shirts/pants or skirts, 78 wears black and white.

Fifth Grade:

Action Items: Are you spring cleaning? We welcome gently used items to be donated towards our end of year auction. These items should be given to Miss Slauer or Mrs. Reidsma.

Spring Camp: Will be held at Camp Tall Turf May 22-24.


Band: We are on page 23 and 24 in the books, and learning songs for our GF and Spring Concerts as well.

Bible: Students are plugging away at the Jesus Project. We have had lots of in class work time, but some students may need to spend time at home to catch up on some pieces to the project. Upcoming due dates are as follows: Demon-Possessed Man writing is due Fri, April 26 and another verse is due Thurs, May 02. Parable of the Sower and the Seeds, Lost Comic Strip, and Pilgrim’s Progress Reflection will be the next large items due. All of these writings should be located in your child’s Google Drive (login is ) if they would like to access them at home.

Language Arts: We are reading, Bridge to Terabithia in class and reviewing reading strategies and text structures. Students have learned about main idea, author’s purpose, sequence, and cause & effect. The 5th graders have also been working with their spelling “my words” and will have spelling test on Friday (04.26).

Math: We are wrapping up Chapter 11 Measurement with a test Thurs, April 25. Practice Test is due Wed, April 24. Here is the answer key. A conversion chart will be given for customary units on the test. After Chapter 11 we will finish up the year with MAPS Testing and Chapter 12 Geometry.

Orchestra: We are learning all of the notes and bowings and string crossings on page 34! Be ready for a playing quiz on Monday and Tuesday!

PE: We will begin a study of the techniques of badminton. Please be sure your students have appropriate footwear and clothing for physical activity.

Science: We are studying plants and pollinators and the importance of each. We will begin a project to celebrate our learning in the next week.

Social Studies: We have begun studying the Revolutionary War. This week, students will work on their Comparing Armies Project.

Spanish: Reading and building our vocabulary for our story “The Boy Shepherd.”

Sixth Grade:

Chicken Checker & Got Yolk: Mr. Hoo has assigned each family to chicken chores for 1 weekend between now and the end of the school year. This includes cleaning the coop, feeding the chickens and picking up eggs. Please look  at which weekend you have been assigned to be sure you are available. If you are not, please work with another family to make a switch. Questions? Talk to Mr. Hoo. We are counting on you!

Devotion Sign-up: FIVE spots left. Time is running out and we would love for you to consider signing up here to lead devotions for the  6th Graders on a Thursday (8:00-8:10am) this school year. The students love to have parents and guests come to share a story, song, verse, prayer or devotional with us.


Band: Concerts are coming - GF Day is May 03 and the Spring concert is May 09.

Bible: Thanks to all who came to worship with us at chapel! We will continue to work through Psalms and Proverbs. Memory work (Psalm 8 or Psalm 121) is due on Friday.

History: We are finishing our olympic events that help us learn about Ancient Greece. We will begin preparing for our test.

Language Arts: We can’t wait for Fine Arts night on Thurs, Apr 25. Students need to arrive at 6:15pm. All students should be working on the display board at home and will need to bring them to school no later than Wed, Apr 24. This coming week we plan work on our newspapers and bibliographies in class as well as compiling our portfolios. We are a bit behind this year, so portfolios may not be in their final state on Thursday night.

Math: We continue to calculate area and perimeter of various shapes. Next week we will also be finding area and perimeter of complex shapes. Our chapter test is schedule for Mon, Apr 29.

Orchestra: Two concerts coming up-- GF Day is May 3 and Spring Concert is May 09!

PE: We will begin a study of the techniques of badminton. Please be sure your students have appropriate footwear and clothing for physical activity.

Science: We are learning about how the atmosphere heats up and how certain weather and climate patterns are created. We will likely have a test on Mon, Apr 29. A review will be handed out this coming week.

Spanish: We have finished chapters 1-5 in our novel “Brandon Brown Wants a Dog.”  We will review this coming week and then have a Test on April 29. See Moodle for study links.

Seventh Grade:

Class trip: Parents, please plan on your calendar, the 7th grade class trip is May 30 and 31. Information and details coming soon!


Band: Grand Friends Day Concert May 03 - Spring Concert May 09, 7:00pm at school. May will be really fun for us - we have a lot of music to share.

Bible: We are continuing with service. This coming week we will be finalizing some projects, including contributing to Operation Gratitude.

Choir: Spring Concert May 09 at school - we finished our musical unit and will be doing a LOT of singing.  

History: Next week we will begin our study of American History. We will start with an overview of the many early European explorers who traveled to North America.

Language Arts: We are getting very close to the exciting conclusion of The Westing Game. In the meantime, students have been learning a lot about bibliographies and parenthetical citations. On Apr 23, 7th graders will take a small quiz to assess their parenthetical citation know-how. For the rest of the week, we will be drafting essays - we will aim to have the first draft completed by Fri, April 26.

Orchestra: The 7th graders shared their instruments with all of the 4th graders today and did an outstanding job! Thanks for playing!

Pre-Algebra (Kiser): We are solving systems of equations by graphing and by substitution. Our Test on linear functions will be on Thurs, Apr 25.

Spanish: TEST on Wednesday April 24.  The test will cover chapters 1-7 of our novel “ Secret Agents and the Mural of Pablo Picasso.”  See Moodle for study links.

Algebra: We have been working really hard on learning how to factor polynomials this past week. Next week we will review a little more and then take a test on the material on Wednesday.

Choir: We sing on May 09 at the Spring Concert. We have a lot of music to share!

History: We are in our Civil War unit. Our focus next week will include looking at the many of the key events of 1862 and finishing with Lincoln ordering the Emancipation Proclamation.

Language Arts: We are halfway through The Diary of Anne Frank. There will be a brief quiz on Act 1 on Mon, Apr 22. We will likely complete the play by the end of the week. Students will soon be doing revisions for their Book of Memories project.

Orchestra: Wow! This group of string players is so excited about all new music! Focus this week on our new pieces. Concerto in G, Tryptych, Rondeau. Thanks for playing for the 4th graders and sharing your love of string instruments with them!
