Music Camp: Summer is coming and our musicians are amazing. They might really enjoy attending Knollcrest Music Camp at Calvin University. So many great offerings! Take a look - ask Mrs. VN if you have any questions, she has worked at KMC for more than 30 years. 

5th Grade

Auction: Our 5th auction will be on Wed., June 8. We are looking for donations - these can be used items from around the house that you no longer want or need (sports balls, Nerf hoops, purses, stuffed animals, etc). If you wish to donate items to our auction, please send your child with the items to give to his/her homeroom teacher. 

Gospel Theatre: Gospel Theatre is taking place June 7 at 2pm in the Commons. Please arrive by 1:50pm.

End of Year Chapel:  The 56ers will be leading the end of year chapel on the last day of school, June 8. We look forward to worshipping with you and reflecting on our year! Parents and family are invited to join us on the last day of school in the South Gym. Watch the Ada Connection for more information.

Art: 5th graders will be working to complete their slice of cake artwork next time in class. 

Bible: This week we prepared for Gospel Theatre.

Language Arts: This week we finished The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe. Next week we will analyze the entire story now that we have finished the end. We will also have a spelling test on Thurs, June 2. Students have a copy of their words, but the word list is also posted on Google Classroom.

Music - Band: Great work on the Band Bingo Card! Only a few students need to bring this in.

We will have our Band Party on Mon June 6 - that’s the last day we play during school this year. Could you send a treat for June 6? That would be great!

Music - Choir: We will be singing at the EOY chapel on the final day of school! 

Music - Orchestra: A reminder that your final Google Video was due Thursday May 26. Also that we will be having our party on Tuesday, May 31. Bring food if you wish and make sure that you have your missing assignments completed or you will be doing that for the party instead.

PE: Students have almost completed their fitness tests and will finish the year off with some of their favorite PE games/activities. 

Science: Students are finishing their year by learning about the vascular systems of plants and will be working on a final project next week.

Spanish: We are enjoying learning about the Nazca Lines - an archeological mystery in Peru.  Students are enjoying making their own theories.  If time and weather allows, they will make their own geoglyphs. 

6th Grade

Sixth Grade Appreciation Day was so fun! Thank you parents for loving us! Thank you for the Root Beer Floats! And we enjoyed our WHEELS extra recess too!

Auction: Our 6th auction will be on Wed. June 8. If you would like to sponsor our auction with any sorts of donations: candy, toys, inflatable summer beach toys and/or things that kids would love. Please send to school to your 6th grade homeroom teacher and thank you so much!

Bible: This week we finished writing reflections on Pilgrim’s Progress.

Language Arts: This week we continued to read The Wednesday Wars, learned new vocabulary words, and analyzed the growth and development of the characters. Next week we will finish the book! We will also have a spelling test on Thurs, June 2. Students have a copy of their words, but the word list is also posted on Google Classroom.

PE: Students have almost completed their fitness tests and will finish the year off with some of their favorite PE games/activities. 

Science: Students finishing the year testing which slide is the fastest on the playground. Next week they will be working on their final project.

Spanish: This week we finished our novel!  Next week we will enjoy some of our favorite Spanish activities.  All Spanish work should be done and turned in.

7th Grade

Art: 7th graders learned about drawing pencils and 7 different ways to make marks with pencils this week in class. Next week 7th graders will be putting what they learned to work in drawing from a still life that will be set up in class. Please check the homework calendar for sketchbook and project due dates. 

Bible: We have finished going through the paradise walk and reflecting on the life of Jesus, Students will use their last three class periods to write a reflection on the walk and what they learned from it.

History: We have wrapped up our study of Reconstruction in the South after the Civil War, focusing on the effects of Radical Reconstruction (when freedmen received new rights and freedoms) and later and post reconstruction (when the rights and freedoms of Black people were again restricted and lost). We will have an open note test on Tuesday the 31st. The format of the test will give students an opportunity to experience the testing style of 8th grade history tests. 

Language Arts: We will be completing our Organism Monologues. We will also continue to peel back the layers of The Westing Game and discuss how it fits in thematically with the other books we have read and studied in 7th grade. Just what exactly is the theme of 7th grade literature? We will collaborate to determine that together!

Math - 7th Math: We have finished our last test of the year. We will finish out the year with a statistics project and cumulative review activities.

Math - Algebra: Students will be completing their course exam on Tuesday and Wednesday!

Math - Pre-Algebra: 7th grade students will be completing a project on surface area and volume to finish out the school year. This project will be counted as a test grade.

Music - Band: We are giving a concert during school on Tuesday, May 31 in the South Gym at 1:15 for the elementary students! Parents are also invited to come! We have some new music to play for them!

Music - Choir: We did a brief unit on Memorial Day and Military Music.

Science: Students put together invasive species videos this week. Check in with your child and see what they made! These 7th graders are a creative bunch!

Spanish: QUIZ for 7A and 7C on Tuesday.  This is an open note, and open book Quiz.  There will be a listening portion that will not be open note/book.  Chapter guides 8-14 are also due at quiz time.  See Moodle for more information and resources.

8th Grade

Art: Well done. Student need to complete on last thing for art by making sure their street artwork by next Tue, May 31 and send an email with a photo attached or come to the artroom and show me the picture of the installed artwork. 

Bible: We finished the year with a reflection on what the students learned about God, themselves, and their peers through their study and exploration of their plumb-bob verse. Congratulations on a job well done, 8th graders!

History: We covered a lot of ground and learned a lot of US History this year, but more importantly, students learned and practiced the historical thinking skills they will continue to use in high school and in life. They did a great job throughout the year and on the final exam! I’m so pleased with their hard work and learning! Blessings to students and families in the next step in their journey!

Language Arts: Please return any classroom novels or textbooks.

Math - Algebra: We finished out a challenging yet rewarding year of studying algebra. I am so proud of the hard work and growth I have seen this year!

Math - Pre-Algebra: They’re done! Thank you, eighth graders for all the hard work in class this year. Please make sure you return your math textbook before you leave!

Music - Band: What a musical bunch. May God BLESS and KEEP you!!!

Music - Choir: We will be singing at graduation. See you there!

Music - Orchestra: Thanks 8th graders for a great year in orchestra! I will miss you and pray for you as you continue on the journey that God has called you too. Come back to visit!

As all spring sports begin to wrap up this week, please be sure to turn in your son/daughters jersey into the office or Mr. Meyaard. Thank you for a fun spring season.
