Middle School Matters

General Announcements

SEED Market - Join us at SEED Market Jan 28 from 2:00-4:00pm! Please invite people from the community to support our 5th and 6th grade students’ businesses. All proceeds will go to Mission India and World Vision. For more information on Mission India, please read this letter.

iPads - A few reminders for all ACS 5-8 families

Charging: All ACS iPads need to be charged at night so that when they arrive at school they are ready to work. Some students are out of the habit of charging their iPads. Please help with this at home - imagine arriving to work either without your device or with a dead one….. Please help remind your student (maybe have a set place where you expect to see that iPad charging at bedtime just like you would with your phone or device).

Earbuds that work in our school iPads: All students in grades 5-8 need a set of inexpensive wired earbuds that fit their ipad. Please check with your student and help with this!

5th Grade

PowerSchool Grades

We have worked hard this year to establish healthy routines as students have adjusted to Middle School. Fri, Jan 21, Mr. Kiser will be talking with all 5th grade students about how they can view grades in real time on PowerSchool. Please read this important parent letter about viewing grades on PowerSchool.

SEED Market: Join us at SEED Market Jan 28 from 2:00-4:00pm! Please invite people from the community to support our students’ businesses. A final SEED Market update was sent home last Friday. Please review this update with your child. We are also in need of plastic grocery bags. If you have extras at home, please have your child give them to Ms. Gerig. This year all SEED money is going to Mission India and World Vision. See the note below for more information about our partnership with Mission India:

Ada Christian Schools is partnering with Mission India to help boys and girls in India hear the Good News of the gospel and learn of Jesus’ love for them! Through Ada’s SEED Market, students will be raising funds to send students to Mission India’s Year-Long Bible Club program. It costs $24 to send a child in India to one of these programs where they will be discipled for an entire year! The students’ goal will be to raise $960 to sponsor a Club of 40 students by January 28. When their goal is met, there will be a 6-Month Progress Report and 12-Month Final Report to let them know how their gift is making an impact in the lives of the Indian children. Parents, we would love for you to engage this effort through your prayers and support as well. Art: 5th grade will spend their next class period printing their relief prints in multi-color.

Bible: This week in Bible we learned about the temptation of Jesus and the disciples. Students identified someone that they are following and someone that they are leading. Matthew 5:14-16 is due Jan 27.

Language Arts: We have completed Week 3 of BOB! Students should be halfway to reaching their goals, so make sure to check your child’s Week #3 Progress Report to see how they are doing. While students have been working independently on their BOB goals, we have also been reading the book Glitch in class. As stated in the initial BOB parent letter, our goal was to read most (if not all) of this book. Due to the length of the story and our deep class discussions, we will not be able to finish reading Glitch aloud in class before the last day of BOB, so if your student would like to add this book to their goal, they may wish to start reading ahead on their own. In addition, because of our wacky first week of snow days after Christmas break, our new final date of BOB will be pushed back to Wed, Feb 16.

Math: The 5th graders finished up their unit on multiplying and dividing decimals with a test this past Thursday.. Next week Tuesday and Wednesday the 5th graders have their math MAP test.

Music - Band: We are working on full band songs - it’s sounding great. All students should be practicing pages 20 and 21 this week! Ask for a mini concert!

Music - Choir: We are singing, drumming and working on theory.

Music - Orchestra: We are continuing to work on our fiddle tunes. Keep practicing and memorizing the music!

PE: We are wrapping up floor hockey and will be moving into a jump rope unit!

Social Studies: Next week we will continue learning about the 1st colonies!
