General and Grade Level Announcements

General Announcements:

Action Required: Sack Lunches from the hot lunch program for May 29-June 07 may only be ordered by parents, online, and the orders must be placed by noon the day prior. Place your orders using this link.

Laptop Turn-In Preparation: 6th & 7th grade students be sure your Laptop End of Year Checklist has been signed and turned into your homeroom teacher. It is due by Wednesday, May 30th.

Summer Camps at ACS - Take a look at what is being offered this summer at ACS!

Library books were due May 23. Do you have any left at your house? Help your student check to be sure all the books get returned to the library as soon as possible.

Summer Science Camps at Calvin College: Email some super fun opportunities offered by Calvin College this summer.

Fifth Grade:

5th Grade Celebration- Join us Fri June 01 at 2:20pm in the Commons for a time of singing and celebration.

Goat Care - Please sign up by clicking here. Instructions are linked here and also on the sign up. Goat helpers should come at noon to help bottle-feed the young goats. Please text Leah Sienkowski if you cannot come at that time. Her contact information is at the link above. Thanks to all of you for your help!

PowerSchool: During the final trimester of 5th grade, students and parents have access to student grades on PowerSchool. Click this link for instructions and more information.

Reproductive Education: Next week May 29 & 30, the 5th grade team plans to begin a short unit on Reproductive Education. Mrs. Witte and Miss Slauer will be meeting with the girls while Mr. Hoo will be meeting with the boys. In addition to going over the physical aspects of puberty, we plan to include discussions on God’s design for our bodies and reproduction, as well as treating our bodies with dignity and respect. If any parent would like more information, let one of us know and we would be happy to talk with you.


Art: Please wear old shoes and clothes next week May 30 & 31 as we will be outside painting in the style of Jackson Pollock.

Band: Full band through June 05. Please send all books, music and instruments through June 05. Horns all go home to stay for the summer June 05! Thank you so much for a great year in band! Ask Mrs. VN if you think your 5th grader might like to try Knollcrest Music Camp this summer - - some of our 5th graders are eligible, if they would like to try it!

Bible: This week we reviewed the Israelites Exodus from Egypt, as well as where the Tribes of Israel settled in Canaan. Students also created posters of the armor of God. 5S needs to have Ephesians 6:13-17 memorized and Memory Menu #2 complete by Thurs May 31. We are meeting with our 1st grade buddies Fri June 1 for the last time - students should take the time to write their buddy a nice letter.

Language Arts: In groups, we are creating menus focusing on adjectives. The students will also be finishing up their news stories with Ms. Frens.

Math: This week we finished up MAP testing and began Taco Truck businesses! Students created business names, logos, truck designs, and menus. The Start-Up packet should already be complete and the Making a Menu packet is due Tues May 28 so that students can start ordering from their peers to practice decimal computation skills.

Orchestra: Full orchestra through June 05 so be sure to bring ALL books and music as well as instruments. We are beginning to play in Book 2 and will send that home for the summer.

PE: We will be playing Disc Golf outside next week.

Science: We will continue our focus on plants and pollinators next week.

Spanish: We will end the year by learning about Spain! Brag forms can be turned in through next week.

Sixth Grade:

Auction Items: We would love to collect new/gently used items for the 6th grade auction that will be held on Fri Jun 08. Thanks for considering a donation to celebrate the class’ good work this spring! 6th Graders are racking up their auction points in preparation for a good time.

Craig’s Cruisers Class Trip: Craig’s Cruisers Permission Form and Trampoline Waiver was sent home with students Friday. It is due back by Wed, May 30.

Chicken Checkup - Please sign up by clicking here. Instructions are linked here and also on the sign up. Thanks to all of you for your help! Please note that we now have 2 separate areas that need attention for chicken checkup: the regular coop and the new area on the side of the barn with 36 small feathered friends!

Missing Work - Please check PowerSchool with your student and encourage him or her to complete and submit any missing work that has been accumulating.


Art: All glazing must be completed by next Fri Jun 01. Students will be looking at and creating simple masks to end the year. Please check the homework calendar for sketchbook and project due dates.

Bible: We will finish our study of Proverbs with a Test next Thursday!

History: This week we began learning about the beginnings of Christianity in Ancient Rome. Students revisited the life, death, and resurrection of Jesus, as well as Paul’s missionary journeys. Next week we will be wrapping up Rome and reviewing all that we’ve learned about this civilization.

Language Arts: We are having a blast reading The Wednesday Wars. There will be a brief quiz on characters next Friday.

Math: We will continue to study statistics and will begin preparing for the test next week.

PE: We enjoyed playing Eclipseball and Eclipseball Jr. this week! We will be playing Disc Golf outside next week.

Orchestra: We will play through June 5. On June 5th ALL instruments go home for the summer. Rental money must be turned in before May 29 so be sure to turn it in to the orchestra room SOON!

Science: We will wrap up our study of weather and water with a test on Thu May 31. Students received a review sheet this week (it is also posted on moodle for students to access digitally).

Spanish: TEST. 6W - test on May 30. 6K - test on June 4. See Moodle for more details.

Seventh Grade:

Algebra (7th): We will review for our end of the year Algebra Test. Looking back at concepts we studied throughout the year as well as preparing for geometry. Algebra Test is on June 5

Art: 7th graders are ending the year with some still life drawing. Please check the homework calendar for sketchbook and project due dates.

Bible(Huttenga/Wanner): 7th graders are working on service and the correct attitudes towards service. Also 7th graders will spend time reflect on their class trip in Bible class.  

History: We are taking a quick look at what life was like in the early American colonies.

Language Arts: We’re finishing the ProCon research unit.

PE: We enjoyed playing Eclipseball and Eclipseball Jr. this week! We will be playing Disc Golf outside next week.

Math: We continue to learn about statistics. The students will have a test on this material the last week of school.

Pre-Algebra: We will wrap up our work with Transformations this week. Test on Wed, May 30. A study guide and practice test can be found on p.551 of the student text.

Orchestra: We will have orchestra through June 5th and then all instruments go home with you for the summer! Be sure to bring orchestra rental $ by May 29th and turn it in to Mrs, Kladder..

Science: We will wrap up our investigation on the rock cycle, mountains and metamorphic rocks. Final science test June 5 or 6 depending on which block schedule your student is on.

Spanish: We will end the year with a little Spanish culture, a little music, and little Wooly.

Eighth Grade:

Laptops: All 8th Grade parents need to complete this survey regarding the MacBook Air that your student has been using.

Class Trip: We are super excited for our trip next week! Remember that students need to be dropped off at school at 6:45am next Wednesday morning. Here is a link to the itinerary and packing list if you need it. We return Friday by 3:00pm.

Graduation: Just a head’s up...Graduation is on Thu June 07 at 7:00pm at Thornapple Evangelical Covenant Church. We will be asking your 8th grade students to arrive by 6:15pm so that we can have our class picture taken before the service.

Schedule: Full Day Tue May 29, Mon and Tue June 04 and 05. Half day June 06.

What a blessing to have the privilege to be your 8th grader’s teacher. We are thankful for them and pray God’s blessings on them as they move on to high school!


Art: Artwork comes home next Tuesday. You might want to consider picking up your 8th grader that day.

Band: All instruments should now be safely home. Thank you for being a wonderful, musical group of students and parents.

Bible(Huttenga/Van Noord): Students will be working on their Bible exam - the final portion of the Book of Memories Project.

Language Arts: We’ll be tying together some logistical strings after the exam.

Spanish: Spanish Placement Test May 29 at 10:00am, Room 305. This test is for all students attending Northpointe and Grand Rapids Christian.

Athletics:

Uniforms: Please turn in all athletic uniforms to Mrs. O’Brien before the end of the school year.

Fall Sports: We are now looking ahead to the fall 2018 sports season. Sign-ups are now available on the ACS Athletic Webpage. Sign-ups will take place now thru August 5.
