A Note From Principal Brower

What A Week!

8th Grade Work Projects Middle School service projects, 5th grade survival camp, the arrival of goats, orchard visits, science investigations, Charleston Wrap sales and so much more filled the past week.

Thank you for the time parents shared in chaperoning service opportunities, for the MANY tools you lent to our students, and for your supportive words, encouragement and prayers. You are very much loved and appreciated!

Visit the ACS Facebook page to see many photos of school happenings. Here is a peek…

Tender Tardy Talk

We are averaging about 50 tardy students each morning. We know mornings can take on a life of their own sometimes -- we understand; but, having students in class before the tardy bell truly helps the day get off to a smooth start for everyone. Let’s work together to cut our average down to 25 next week – we can do it!

Student Relations Tip

We are taking some time with our students to talk about annoying behaviors – what they are and what students can do about them. Here are some steps you can help us practice with students.

What should you do if someone is annoying you?

  • Look your classmate in the eye & put on a calm face. Use a calm voice & say, “That’s bothering me. Please stop.”If the person stops -  say “Thank you.”
  • If the person does not stop  - count to 10 & then  say, “That’s bothering me. Please stop.” If the person stops -  say “Thank you.”
  • If the person does not stop - count to 10 & then say, “That’s bothering me. Please stop, or I will report it.” If the person stops -  say “Thank you.”
  • If the person does not stop - report it to an adult & say, “I asked nicely three times for (name) to stop (behavior). They keep doing it. Will you help me?”

Our middle school theme t-shirts were a hit! And, several asked if we could order more shirts with the logo on the front and the verse on the back -- and we can! Available sizes range from youth medium through adult.

Keycard Sales

[IMAGE '419' /] For many years the ACS Middle School students used the sale of Keycards or Entertainment Books to fund a variety of their activities. As a service to our families, Mrs. DeJong has agreed to manage the sales in the office. They do make great Christmas gifts and we can earn a 50% profit.

The Keycard will be available for $25. Find out just how many places it can be used. Stop by the office to buy yours any time between now and Christmas break.

Mrs. DeJong has decided that our ACS music department should receive the profits from her labors. Mrs. VandenBosch, Mrs. VanNoord and Mrs. Kladder will need to put their heads together!

Game Day Gear

Bleacher seats, folding chairs and stadium blankets complete with our ACS logo are available for purchase. Fill out the order form (743 KB PDF) and return to the ACS office no later than Friday, Oct 07. Special discounts are available!

Questions? Contact Laura Kaminski ().

Meals For The Rauch Family

The Rauch family has several kids at ACS and Teresa, the mom, has been diagnosed with ALS. Outside of coveting your prayers, the family could really use meals. We would love to provide them with two meals a week. The meal would need to feed 5-6 people. No allergies.

Sign up to make a meal and see what others are bringing. Meals may be delivered to the office and Brian Rauch will pick them up after school. If you have any questions, please contact Jill Anderson ().

PTO Happenings

That's A Wrap

We are at the end of our PTO Fall Fundraiser. The program runs through this Friday Oct 07. Our fundraising goal will be achieved if every ACS student sells at least $50 worth of merchandise.

We have some great sales prizes, including a front row parking spot for the entire school year, and student principal for the morning!

If you would rather make a straight donation to the PTO, simply make a check to ACS PTO and enclose it in the Charleston Wrap envelope with a note indicating that. We appreciate your participation and support!

Questions? Contact Kristen Goodyke () or Dawn Raymond ().

Box Top Drive

For the next two weeks, through Oct 19, please have your kids empty your drawers and search your cupboards for any and all Box Tops at home. Collection sheets will be sent home with your child, and can be returned to the office for a prize! Additional sheets can be picked up in the office.

Please remember to send all BONUS Box Tops separate from the collection sheet.
