A Note From The Principal

A Farewell

Sometimes I need to share news that will literally change our school in one way or another, and I struggle with what to say. This is one of those times. After answering thousands and thousands of phone calls, making countless loops around the hallways to collect attendance slips back in the day, making hundreds of thousands of copies, laminating and cutting a bazillion pieces of student materials, binding piles upon piles of booklets, keeping papers, people and things organized and labeled in the office, dispensing several gallons of tylenol, and issuing a few tons of ice cubes for owies, Sharon DeJong has decided to move away from her secretarial position in which she has served ACS for the past 25 years into Retirement Land. We wish her the very best as we wonder how we will fill her shoes. 

Mrs. DeJong’s position will be posted in June.

Summer Covenant Care News

ACS is excited to launch Summer Covenant Care and thrilled to introduce our Lead teachers for the program.  

Malorie Moen is currently a lead teacher in Covenant Care and has been hired as our new year-round Covenant Care Coordinator.  She is so happy to be nurturing our students during fun-filled summer days and taking on the roles and responsibilities that go along with being our coordinator. 

Katherine Zuiderveen who recently filled a long-term sub position for Mrs. Vruwink was thrilled to accept a lead teacher position in our Summer Covenant Care program and ACS is looking forward to all she has to offer students in caring for our students and stimulating their imaginations!

We are pleased to announce that Miss Nikki Tellkamp and Miss Eliza Kremers are also assisting with our summer programming!

Summer Covenant Care programming will center on weekly themes and include specials like:

• Spanish
• Music
• Outdoor Education (with Mr. Sportel and Miss Leah)
• Art

Enrollment Forms Due Apr 23

Dear Parents,

It is time to re-enroll your student(s) at ACS for the 2021-2022 school year. We ask that you complete the online enrollment form by Fri, Apr 23.

To complete the enrollment form for 2021-2022:

• Log into PowerSchool using your web browser (laptop/desktop recommended over a mobile device)
• Click on "Forms" in the left navigation menu
• Complete the relevant forms

There is a Tuition & Grants section on the form.

• The first TUITION amount you see is the calculation for the “Requested” or “Full Cost”  amount of tuition.
• In the GRANT section, thanks to the generous, ongoing support of the ACS Education Foundation and our annual fundraising efforts, you will see the maximum grant amount you may accept towards your tuition. The grant is available for all families. Families that are able to pay the “Requested” or “Full Cost” of tuition will receive a charitable receipt for the difference (Thank You!).
• For families needing additional tuition assistance, you may complete an online application through FACTS, by May 14. Qualifying families will be notified of the assistance amounts no later than June and adjustments to your tuition total will be made at that time. 

Covenant Care registration is also open at this time. If your family wishes to have Covenant Care for your K-5 student(s) please fill out the Covenant Care form. 

We have worked hard to ensure our online enrollment process will go well for our families; however, we realize you may have questions during this process. Please do not hesitate to contact us if you have any questions or concerns.

FACTS Enrollment Notifications

As a reminder, upon enrollment you will receive notifications from FACTS in three separate actions. (Please note this can take a few weeks).

   1. Confirmation of the total commitment you have made (this will include tuition and any donations).

   2. Confirmation of the enrollment fee you have paid.

   3. Confirmation of any financial assistance you will receive (please note that this may not happen immediately. Our team along with several churches are still calculating assistance.)

Summer Camps & Tutoring

Discover the exciting camps we are offering at ACS this summer. Whether your child loves art, technology, music or outdoor ed there is something for them!

Mrs. VanStee will be offering tutoring opportunities for K-4th grades on Wednesdays and Mrs. Vruwink will offer ukulele and voice lessons to 3rd-8th graders on Tuesday mornings.

Apr 27, 28 & 30, 8:00-9:00am. Parents are invited to join us at the WoodShed for coffee and a time to connect. Teachers will be joining in - we have missed seeing our parents!

Volunteer opportunity

Fine Arts Nights - Apr 29 & 30

Our annual Fine Arts Night will be hosted over two evenings. ACS families are invited to join us for a self-guided tour through our halls featuring student artwork. You will be amazed! Grandparents and friends are welcome to join you. Please try to attend on the suggested date below based on your family last name.

Grand Friend's Day

We will not be hosting a Grand Friend’s Day on campus this year. However! We will invite our parents and Grand Friend’s to peek into our classes virtually. How? We will be posting video clips from classes throughout the day on our ACS FaceBook page. We will be sharing a schedule so “visitors'' know when things will be posted.

Parents are invited to join us for our Spring Concerts. Guests will be limited so please watch for more details. Come see the incredible progress our musicians have made this school year.

PTO Happenings

Walk-a-thon - May 07

The annual Walk-a-thon is back! Full information can be found on the envelopes that will be coming home with students, but here are the highlights:

 - Our fun Walk-a-thon event will take place on Friday, May 07 during school hours! Please have students wear ACS apparel or school colors.
- Fundraiser money helps the PTO support the school. The bulk of the money goes directly to our wonderful teachers and their classrooms! Watch a quick video with examples of where the money is used.
- Envelopes are due by Wednesday, May 05. Please track donations and sign the permission slip. Please convert cash to checks made payable to Ada Christian School. You can also give online.
