A Note From The Principal

Thanksgiving

Being thankful obviously comes to light during this season, yet many times throughout the school year I found myself saying thank you long before November hit the calendar. We do have a lot to thank God for on a daily basis and should do so.

Still, this time of the year also reminds many of us that there is an empty seat (or more) at the table as loved ones have gone ahead of us to glory. It is difficult when the silence of the void is louder than the laughter and joy of the family that gets together.

Let’s give thanks to God for He is good, while praying for those that are hurting in this season.

Action Needed

End of Trimester 1 & Report Cards

Friday, Nov 19 was the end of Trimester one. Report cards will come home on Wednesday, Nov 30. We ask that K-4th parents please sign and return your child’s envelope to their homeroom teacher.

Students in K-4th grades will come home with a printed report card.

Parents of students in 5th-8th grade will receive an email with a digital copy of the report card. 5th-8th grade parents can also log into their Powerschool parent portal and click on “Student Reports” in the left navigation to view the report card.

Snow Day Reminders

As we enter the winter months, here are a couple reminders for you:

If fog or weather conditions result in a two hour delay or closing being necessary, you will receive an email and text notification from ACS; it will also be posted on Facebook and Wood TV. ACS relies upon Forest Hills Public Schools Transportation Department to assess road conditions. We close when they do during weather emergencies. If Lowell Public Schools closes and Forest Hills Schools remain open, ACS will remain open.

To make ACS text messages easier to recognize, we have created a simple way to add ACS as a Contact to your mobile device. Click to add ACS as a contact. Then, when we send you a "School's Closed" message, you'll know who it's from and can plan your day appropriately.  You can also text “Yes” to 87569 to ensure you are set up to receive text messages from ACS.

Parking Lot Reminders

Please slow down in the parking lots. As winter approaches and the roads become more slick please be mindful of your speed in the parking lots. Thank you for helping us to keep our kids safe!

Board Nominations

It is time to begin the nomination process for our 2023-2024 School Board Members.

Please submit your nominations by Dec 01, 2022. Thank you!

Now You Know

LEGO League

The ACS FIRST Lego League teams of ten 4th grade and two 5th grader students demonstrated robotics (coding and robot design), research and core values at the regional Lego League Challenge at Grandville High School on a snowy November 19, 2022. After 9 weeks of preparation, the tournament was a nailbiter even before the day began! The teams did not know if the tournament would be postponed due to the snowstorm. When they got the call at 5 a.m. on Saturday morning that the tournament was on, they were ready to go!

The Energy Experts were recognized with a trophy for their innovation project. The team challenged all three fourth grade classes to track their energy use in the classroom for one week. Prior to the challenge, two team members had interviewed Mr. Kiser. They took note of ACS's daily energy bill and were taken on a tour of the notable energy components around the campus.

The Short Circuits could also be proud of their performance at the tournament. At each of the 3 mission challenge events, their scores kept rising due to problem solving which involved revising code and redesigning key robot attachments before each match.

The coaches are proud of each team and would like to recognize their hard work! Way to go, Energy Experts and Short Circuits!
