The curriculum of the Ada Christian School Preschool encourages young children to explore God's world, enjoy learning, and participate in a Christian community. Each program has a distinct curriculum so that students who participate in preschool for two or three years will have a wide variety of experiences.
Each class begins their day with a Bible time. In the three's program, the children are introduced to a special puppet that has something special to share with them as they learn about God's world. In the four's program, the children start their day with a candlelight quiet time, while a Bible story is told. Special props and books are used to enhance the story of the week/month. In the young five's program, the children learn a Bible verse each week corresponding with the letter of the week, in addition to songs and prayers in relation to the verse.
Handwriting Without Tears is used in all of the classes. Three's focus mainly on shapes, people, and the first letter of their name, while learning the basic wood pieces and some songs from this progam. The four's focus on each letter as they study the alphabet. A special tracing and coloring page is reinforced with a special sticker for the specific letter. In four's and young five's, many of the handwriting manipulatives are used in preparation for writing the letters including the magnadoodle, wood pieces, playdough, and chalk boards. The young five's focus on writing the letters and doing a mini-project as well.
Here are some highlighted themes from each class: Three's - shapes, colors, spring animals, the animals at the manger, keeping warm in winter, friends here and around the world,... Four's - weather, Sacagawea, heavenly lights, seeds, olympics, apples, pumpkins, the flag, boats, firefighters... Young five's - Me, My Family, Michigan, the USA, Italy, Switzerland, Israel,...
To enhance what we are learning about the four's and young five's classes do take some field trips. In the past, the four's have gone to the fire station, the pumpkin patch, Meijer Gardens and the Blanford Nature center. The young five's typically go on one field trip a month possibly including the ice arena, a soccer place, a international restaurant, a horse barn, a trail, Meijer Gardens, Meijers, the orchestra in our school and more.
Each class also does special things with games, gross motor activities, names, fingerplays, books, and more.
