John Boerkoel
I attended a Christian school from kindergarten through college. In 1990 I completed a B.A. degree at Calvin College with certification to teach Biology and History. I taught six years at Plymouth Christian School in Grand Rapids and since 1997 I have taught at Ada Christian School. In 1994 I obtained my Masters in Education with emphasis in Biology from Grand Valley State University. I’m currently a member of NSTA and have conducted a number of seminars through NSTA and other professional development organizations. I have also led summer science camps and have coached a Science Olympiad team since 1991.
I have been married to my lovely wife, Anna, since 1991 and we have been blessed with two sons and two daughters. We are members of Providence Reformed Church. I enjoy outdoor activities such as gardening and nature study. My wife is a stay at home mom who is also the primary educator of our children.
“Whether therefore ye eat, or drink, or whatsoever ye do, do all to the glory of God.” 1 Corinthians 10:31 Above academic instruction, my greatest desire and joy is for each student to come to know the Lord Jesus Christ as their Savior. It is my prayer that I may be used of God, through grace He supplies, to set an example in godliness so that I and my students may continually grow in the grace and knowledge of Jesus Christ. That my will may be surrendered to His and all of life lived to the honor and glory of God. Therefore as a teacher, my desire is to serve students, parents, and school as Christ did here on earth through His example, teaching, service, and correction. This is foundational for the teaching of the science curriculum for in Christ are hidden all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge (Colossians. 2:3).
