Professional Biography:

When I graduated from college, I planned to work in the corporate world with my degree in Communications, but I also held a second major in Spanish and had studied in and traveled throughout Mexico “just because it was fun.”  After a short time in the corporate realm, I knew that I was not going to be happy doing anything but teaching--just like the rest of my family.  So, I returned to school, earned my teacher certification, and began teaching Spanish at the high school level.  Thereafter, I taught at GVSU for over 4 years…until the twins were born.  After staying home with them for a few years, a series of events took me on journey of teaching part-time for two separate Christian programs, grades 1st-8th.  What a change from the high school and college level!  But it was a delightful one which I absolutely loved and which has led me to the blessing of working with the 3rd-8th graders here at Ada Christian School.  I also have a minor in theatre and have worked in both community and professional theatre, so am thrilled to be working with Mrs. Contant on the 8th grade musical.

Personal Biography:

I am married to Christopher and we have two children, the aforementioned twins, Stephen and Melinda.  They are enjoying their third year here at Ada Christian,  now as big 1st graders! We are animal lovers, and I think our current count is around 14 critters out here in the country, including a few horses and a couple llamas.  We also love camping and gardening, though we don’t have nearly as much time to enjoy those things as we would like.  Christ Church, PCA has been my home church for 17 years, and my husband teaches children’s worship there.

Faith Statement:

As a teacher and a Christian, my job entails more than imparting how to speak Spanish.  My job is also to encourage every child of God with whom I come in contact to know and follow Jesus.  I believe I share in the responsibility to train a child in the way he should go, so when he is old he will not turn from it, (Proverbs 22:6).  Understanding these young people’s delightful uniqueness and creating lessons that address their varying learning styles are steps toward this.  Then, whether talking about another culture and loving the people despite differences, or praying for them on account of those differences, to marveling that God created so many colors (that we get to learn in Spanish), each day holds opportunities to share God’s word and His love.  It also holds the opportunities to see Him through these amazing young people, which is a blessing I receive from them often!
